It wouldn't matter to me but my husband always liked Britcoms such as Benny Hill, Are You Being Served?, and a few others. Actually, I've seen a few English mini-series that were quite good, so having BBC would be nice.

Yeah I would like to have it. I'm lucky though because I live by the Canadian border so I get a few of the British soaps that are shown on one of the Canadian stations. I really like them a lot better than the American ones.

I'd like to have it, I enjoy many britcoms and I would like to see some other british shows.
Titania, I notice you have a quotation about Virgina who wrote to a newspaper and asked if there was a Santa Claus. Did you know it was made into a cartoon christmas special..have you seen it? |

BBC is generally pretty good, they do show some rubbish but it's good that it's free of commercials.

I heard from a guy who lives in England that BBC is like a standard Channel...maybe like an ABC for example here...

I actually like commercials. It's how I decide what products to try or learn what's new on the market. A lot of commercials are fun to watch too.
Commercials come in handy to grab a snack or hit the bathroom too.

Take it from a British citizen - the BBC is a load of crap! The only decent show they currently have is 'The League of Gentlemen'.
If it's old Britcoms you guys are looking for then you need to get yourself a satalite dish and tune into UK Gold. The reason the BBC gets away without showing commercials is cos it's paid for by the TV licence (with everyone who owns a TV must pay) which is Ł9 a month. The BBC is a massive empire though. It's not just BBC1, there's also BBC2 (which is much better IMO) and BBC Choice and BBC4 which are only available to digital viewers. The BBC also have a huge amount of radio stations, both terrestrial and digital. The newest BBC radio station is BBC7 which is launching tonight at 8pm. It's a mixture of comedy and drama shows and since I'm quite a fan of radio comedy I'm looking forward to the launch show! |
