Default Ebay question... scam?

I bid on an auction and won without looking at the seller's feedback. Bad move, I know. Anyway, I won this auction for the movie, High Crimes, for only like $3.27. The guy won't tell me the total cost. And says he charges more to use paypal which makes no sense whatsoever being that it's the quickest way to do it. Just sent me the following email:

High Crimes DVD Morgan Freeman / Ashley Judd - Item #1980037502

Congratulations on your high bid. DO NOT use the ebay checkout system for your purchase.

Completing your order is as simple as 1,2,3.

1. Click on our auction website link below:

http://fourml8r.tripod.com/auctions/index.html

2. Once there, click on the left hand menu for your desired payment method. Cash, money order or Paypal. Each payment method is different, so please take the time to read the information carefully.

3. Send in the completed order form (Cash or Money orders) or email us with the Paypal form filled out and we will send you a payment request.

Note that your S/H costs are based on options YOU pick (Insurance, shipping coupon. delivery confirmation etc.) so please don't send an email asking "How much is my total"?

Thanks.

So, I'm thinking after reading this, "Why does he not want to use ebay's checkout?" But I go to the link above anyway to see what the guy's deal was and he's got this form that I've never seen before telling me to fill it out. It's the form that paypal asks you to fill out when you want to send money. Only he wants me to fill it out and then send it back to him to process through ebay himself. Which sounds totally like a scam. So, I emailed him back and told him that. I told him that it was too confusing and I was leery of doing it so I would have to use ebay's checkout to complete the transaction. And he sends this back to me:

As with many sellers, we do not participart in the ebay checkout system. If you fill out the paypal form we will gladly send you a paypal request.

Now, I'm thinking about not even sending him any money period because it sounds so phony. I've even went back and read his feedback, he's got 2,833 with 64 being negative and 55 being neutral. All negs and neuts saying that he either over charged, didn't send, package not as described, or payment instructions too complex. And every single one of those negatives and neutrals he has written a response saying that they were deadbeat buyers and didn't respond to emails or were never satisfied no matter what he did.

I would rather get a negative feedback from this creep than lose some money but I really hate that I'd get the negative feedback because I've only gotten one since I started ebay and it wasn't my fault either. I had tried to contact the seller for instructions like four times and after a month and a half I left negative feedback and he retaliated by doing the same

Have any of you ever seen this kind of procedure done by sellers when using paypal?

I can see why he would charge more for Paypal because they (Paypal) takes a chunk of it, but the way he's doing it is stupid! He should just tell you the total and let you process it yourself. You might consider turning him in with ebay. Sounds like a scammer.

I agree with Cathy. It does sound like a scam to me.

Some of those feedbacks can be a bit misleading in a way. I dealt with someone and I sent them a money order and the guy just wouldn't cooperate. I guess he thought I was trying to scam him, but I had already sent the guy a money order. He kept changing his stories too. I looked and you did indeed send a money order and then he would say the next day that he hadn't received a money order from me. The guy I'm talking about had 8 negatives and 3 neutrals, I think. As you can see, I thought he had a good record and the crap I went through with that transaction, I'll never do business with him again.

One more thing, if you decide to register with ebay don't use your email address as your screen name. I keep getting these scam emails supposedly from ebay asking my credit card # and all kinds of personal info. It's too late for me to change my sn because of the fact they prob. have my email on a list or something and I would prob. still keep getting the emails. Just a lesson for newbies.

You should find out how much shipping is for a total cost and send him a money order (will cost you about $1.00).

I'm sure he will mail you the tape. The condition of it may
come into question, but he could not have gotten all those positives (almost 3,000) with at least going through the motions of completing the transactions.

I bet you get your tape and everything will be fine.
As long as you didn't take a tone with him.
