I just heard from Doug about DVDonDVD! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Hey everyone, I tried emailing Doug Denoff again in wake of the Time/Life DVD set news. And guess what? I got an immediate reply from him!

Bottom line is this: He is still planning on releasing ALL the episodes on DVD in the collectible ottoman! That's all the news I've got so far, but I did send him a follow-up asking for a little more of an update (like the status of the project - close to completion or a ways off yet?). If I get more info, I'll post it here.

I realize everyone is excited about the Time/Life deal, but I for one am willing to give Doug some time to get his project done. Remember, he was the one behind this and was basically double-crossed by a sly businessman who went to Time/Life instead of doing it Doug's way (which is the BEST WAY - ALL EPISODES RELEASED TOGETHER AND IN ORDER).

Well, unfortunately, if we buy the Time/Life set, we are sorta supporting this sleazeball. I know we all want the show on DVD, and this appears to be our first option, but if Doug is to be believed (and I for one certainly don't doubt him in the least) then this set that is about to come out is NOT his work.

I guess we all have to do what we feel is best, but as I've said before, I'm willing to give Doug some time to get his set out. Time/Life isn't going anywhere, so there's no rush on my part. Heck, I called them today just to see if I could get a price, and the lady said that since it wasn't in the system yet, she couldn't give me any info. She couldn't even confirm that it would be available on the 18th, even though I told her I had it on good authority that that would be the case. Now, to be clear, she didn't DENY it, but she also didn't confirm it. She told me to wait a couple of weeks and call back.

I was only interested in the pricing, which is still my main concern. For instance, why only 4 episodes per disk when you can get 8 on a disk (ala the Mary Tyler Moore Season 1 set)? Oh well, I'm rambling now. Each one of us will have to do what we feel is best. I'm just giving some info I thought some of you might like to hear.

In closing, I would just like to remind everyone that it was Doug, not Time/Life, who came up with this idea in the first place, and I for one want to support him. I feel he has the fans best interest at heart.

I've update the www.dickvandykeshow.com website with this post, and news.

It is absolutely the truth. If it were not, I would be in serious legal trouble for publicising it. But I cannot be sued for expressing the well-documented truth.

My father has a few words about William Morris, but unfortunately this is a family website so we won't reprint them here.

William Morris HAS promised (and it's in the contracts) that the Ottoman Collection will be done. That much IS in writing.
