Did Mr. Powell always dislike Buddy? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I always wondered whether Mr. Powell ever disliked his own neighbor (Buddy that is). He was friend to Charles, Lillian, and Ellen, Sarah, Jamie and Adam. He was also friend to the Pembrokes as well. Whenever he was around Buddy, he always usually said a nasty comment to him.

In like every Powell episode, there would be something mean said by Mr. Powell to Buddy.

Examples:
In on 1986-1987 episode, Buddy made some green pudding and Mr. Powell said something like "Lembeck, that pudding was disgusting. I'm never eating it again."

He also used to say "Lembeck, get outta here!" and I'm leaving if you are here to him.

And why did he always call him "Lembeck" instead of "Buddy".

I agree that he could be pretty mean at times, but you can't deny the fact that Buddy could be a complete moron! I mean, the way he would run into a room and say "Hey Charles!!! It's me, Buddy!!!" I mean, does he think Charles is some total idiot? It astounds me how dumb he got during the course of the show. In the beginning, he seemed to be level headed, smart, and calm, but with each succeeding season, he got more & more hyper, stupid & scatter-brained! But I will admit, it was one of if not the most important comedy foils on the show, and I always laugh at him...

I think Mr. Powell secretly liked Buddy, as much as he liked Charles.

In the one episode "Buddy's Daddy", Charles stays next door at Buddy's place for a few days and Buddy walks Charles home. When they go in, Mr. Powell sees Charles w/ Buddy and says to Charles "Charles, glad to see you again" and looks at Buddy and says "Lembeck, Get Outta Here!!!"

In the "Mock Turtle" episode, when they were having green gelatin, did Mr. Powell say something mean about the gelatin? Did Buddy make it?

Ever since he and Buddy broke up, Mr. Powell had a hard time getting over it.

Though rough and mean on the exterior, inside he secretly always hoped they would get back together.

As did we all.
