LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The Disney Channel has halted production on one of its most popular series, "Lizzie McGuire." The decision has more to do with biology than economics. The show follows the lives of Lizzie (Hilary Duff), a middle-school student, her family and friends. But as Duff, 15, gets older, the show would move farther away from the Disney Channel's core audience of elementary- and middle-school kids. "The wheelhouse for us is in junior high and elementary school," Rich Ross, the channel's president of entertainment, tells the Los Angeles Times. "High school is a whole different set of issues." Most kids' shows, because they repeat so often, have a life span of about 65 episodes. That's how many installments of "Lizzie" Disney shot, stepping up production so that Duff would still look like a middle-schooler by series' end. New episodes will continue to air periodically through 2003. The show also airs Saturday mornings on sister channel ABC. Disney executives are also considering developing a prime-time series for Duff that would continue Lizzie's adventures into high school. Duff could follow the footsteps of Amanda Bynes and Melissa Joan Hart, who successfully moved from kids TV -- they both appeared on Nickelodeon series -- to prime-time. |

It goes more in depth. BTW, I told you guys I wasn't lying when I said that ABC is considering "Lizzie McGuire" for prime-time! |

That's true.It most likely COULD go longer since it's so popular but anyone remember the show "Ready Or Not"? It was on Disney for 5 years. They tackled some tough high school issues like Sex and those episodes Disney refused to air. There were about 1 or 2 unaired episodes a season! I think most likely Disney doesn't want to do this again so I think it's for the better.

Disney has that 65 episode limit... nothing they could do about it, and although I don't understand why, The show will still go well into 2003. And, there is that talk of a possibly "Lizzie" primetime, and the movie, so it wont stop for quite a while.

I am out of HS and me and my husband love Lizzie! I really hope they take it to prime time! We both think it is such a shame for them to end it esp since it is so good. I mean if they are going to bring the movie out to theaters that shows how popular it is!

That is so sad. I was looking forward to Lizzie's high school years. I'm 18 years old and I really enjoy this show and I know that some of my friends do also. Boy Meets World didn't get less popular after going on to high school and I don't think Lizzie McGuire would either.

I watch it occasionally as well and enjoy it. Disney saying that Hilary is getting too old for the series to appeal to their younger audience is crap. If that were completely true, why did 17-year-old Raven just get a new series on the channel? She is older than Hilary!

Oh, I hope theres a primetime series!!! I love Lizzie Mcguire, its my favorite show! I'm fixing to go to high school and this show would be great! I can't wait for the movie. Hilary Duff is my favorite actress. And Adam Lamberg is a hottie, although he has to control that hair...hes started to look like Peter Brady.
