Question When did you start watching UM?

I'm curious on when did you start to watch the show. What was it that motivated you to watch and what do you like about it?

Thanks,
Makoto_4

OMG...when did the show debut, was it 1987?

*checks* I believe that's correct.

I've been watching it since the first season, when I was 7 years-old. I remember in '89 when my parents and I went to Disneyland, I had to watch on Wednesday night in our hotel room. Wednesday night was MY night while I was growing up. :P Now I am 22, and I catch the show whenever I can. That means I've been watching for...15 years!

I've been watching it since 1987 when I was 15. At that time it would just come on every once in a while as a special. When it started coming on weekly. Me and my mom would watch it every Wednesday. It was one of the few shows that we could both agree on. We were always interested in that true crime stuff

1988 for me, I started watching it when it became a weekly show.

But, when you take into consideration that I was 8 years old in 1988, and the fact that I'm kind of wimp when it comes to scary movies, the show freaked me out quite often. So much so, that my mom ordered me to take "a break" from watching the show since it gave me nightmares.

The first Unsolved Mysteries segment I remembered watching involved the case of a woman driving to work on a secluded road, she then pulled up behind a man in a black pick up truck, who for reasons known only to himself, stopped his truck, got out and shot the woman in the face at point blank range. Thank GOD she survived, but the whole case is just scary.... why would somebody do that for no reason? Because they were bored? I was only in 3rd grade at the time, but I started getting nervous every time I saw a black pick-up truck around.

I'll be 23 years old in a couple monthes, but I still love the show. I like seeing justice be done for the solved cases and many stories are very interesting.... even though, many UM stories remind you how unpleasent the world can be.

Default Misterios sin Resolver!

Hi,

I started watching UM in '91 when the show was aired for the first time in a local channel of my country, it was on air about 9 months before it was retired. Now they are reruning it and is exciting for me watching the same old episodes again. The show is spanish dubbed , so i've never heard the real voice of Mr. Stack. . But Misterios sin Resolver rules en espańol too!

Ooh. That's too bad. UM just isn't UM if you can't hear Robert Stacks voice. It goes perfect with the show. I can't imagine anyone else hosting it but him.

Cool, dynoguy88! That means we're the same age.

This case you mentioned- was it the one with the lady, anonymous on the segment, who was still conscious enough after she was shot to signal (if I remember correctly) passing motorists by tapping the break pedal of her car? She mentioned she couldn't sit up. I think I remember the one you're talking about.

Another case that scared the dickens out of me was the Roswell case...I believe it was the first case featured on the season premiere of UM, 1989. Every time I saw the "alien bodies", I hid under a blanket in the living room. That segment always freaked me out.

I don't do that now, of course, but I still remember...my mom remembers fondly as well.

That sounds about right, Allierain. I remember the woman was anonymous in the UM interview. The man in the black pick up truck stopped, and shot her in the face through her drivers side window. It was in broad daylight and happened quick enough for other drivers not to see the incident. She layed slumped over the seat and took her shoes off before a trucker pulled over and peaked inside to see what had happened to her.

Apparently, there were police reports of a black pick up truck in that same area taunting other drivers around the time of the shooting.

The woman survived the shooting, but the bullet was lodged into the back of her neck and the segment said that surgery was going to be VERY difficult to remove it.

*Nod* Yes, I remember. She said the bullet would have to remain there unless she went through that delicate surgery. I thought she said it could kill her...as if she hasn't already been through enough. How sad. But she survived to tell the story, so hopefully it won't happen again to someone else.

I've been watching since 1992 or 1993. I just stumbled across it one day and was completely intrigued. I'm still intrigued by it. I love watching the segments and seeing if I notice different parts of them. I love the updates, too, though I wish UM would give more information in their updates.

Having read the posts to this topic, I wish I had seen the show when it first aired. At least I'm catching up with it now. I was about 4 years old when UM first aired in 1987 and I'll be 20 next year.

Earlier this year, one of my online friends mentioned the show during a chat session and I watched it out of curiosity around early October. Since then, I watch it every night, with the lights out and door shut.

About the case where a woman was shot in the face by a driver of a pick-up truck, was the man caught?

Unfortunately no, Makoto_4. And I highly doubt that the man will ever get caught.

After the shooting, police found out that there was over 15,000 black pick up trucks registered in that area. And THAT was the only major clue. The man got out of his truck and shot her so fast that she never really got a good look at his face. (Not surprising I guess since you can only imagine what's going through your head when a gun is pointed at you)

They still show the old segments on lifetime, Makoto, so you'll probably see this case or many others we have talked about soon enough.

You can see a short clip of this case by clicking on the opening from the 1990 season in the video clips section on the front page...(the woman wearing the sunglasses) It's showed as part of the solved cases but it never was.

I've been watching it as long as it's been on Lifetime I believe. It used to follow the Golden Girls at one time which I'm a big fan of. But a few years ago I refused to watch UM anymore because it was just terrifying me too much. I stopped for maybe a year or so then I started watching again because it's highly addictive once you see an episode. It still scares me but it doesn't have the lingering affect now that I'm older thankfully.

Post It's been a long time!

I been watching it for at least 7 years when I was like 10 I though it was scary but the mystery of it and Robert Stack the way he did the show made me come back for more. I watch it on Lifetime every night if I can.
