Default Ron Howard Biography Coming Soon

Hi, I am new here and thought I should de-lurk and post a message. It is unique to find a messageboard where the posters are so nice and kind to each other. And I really enjoyed reading about your "field trip" this past weekend, what a funny idea, and what can I say, only in cyberspace could people do this.

I have to confess that I was a Happy Days fan since it first came on the air. So it is amazing to me that half of you here probably weren't even born at that time, but are new fans. Although a fan, I have yet to see all of the episodes, I guess life was busy when it was first on, and in 11 years, I missed alot. But I watch it if I am home and not otherwise involved. I actually saw the cast of Happy Days in person during one of their many tours. They came to a department store during lunch in the city where I worked, and it was a total mob scene. I sadly did not have time to stay for autographs, and actually recall little of that day. Should have paid more attention, I regret! All of the Happy Days cast, plus Garry Marshall, the producer, always get my attention when I read about one of them.

Anyway, I am a lifelong fan of Ron Howard, and have followed his amazing career since his days on The Andy Griffith Show, and his role in The Music Man, which I saw in the theater as a child. I thought those of you here may be interested to know that a biography about Ron is due to be published in March, 2003. It is the first real biography about him, and is written by a screenwriting professor at UCLA, who also writes for The Hollywood Reporter. It is 336 pages, so it should have a lot of information not previously seen. If I don't mess up doing this, I am including the link for the book to Amazon. It is also listed at other book sites on the web.

I will try to post when I have any brilliant thoughts, or just ordinary ones too, I don't think you are all too picky.

Hello PeggySue! I also started watching HD when it first aired and then 'strayed' away from it in the 80's & 90's, but I'm back. I'm also addicted to this board because it's fun and everyone gets along. Hope you come back soon! Oh and thanks for the info on Ron Howard!

Hi - I just want to say that I saw the original airing of Happy Days also and I'm a lifelong fan of Ron Howards since his stint on the Andy Griffith Show. He's come a long way and I'm so proud of him.....

It's funny I've never heard a bad thing about Ron Howard........ It's like he's as neat as the characters he portrays.......

Thanks for such an entertaining welcome, everyone! But I wouldn't expect less from the Happy Days crowd. It is fascinating that the appeal is there for different generations, the show is possibly timeless because, although silly in many ways, the characters have an honesty and charm that people can relate to.

JennyLee, You stole my thoughts exactly about Ron! I think Ron draws people to him with his unpretentious natural charm and humilty, and others appreciate this for the somewhat rare thing this is in his business. You could see it in his childhood roles and you can see it in his frequent TV appearances. I always root for him, no matter how rich or powerful he has become. I have collected almost all of his movies, both from his child actor days and later. This is including some rare ones such as The Migrants and Bitter Harvest (both are fantastic TV movies)plus all those he directed for the theater. I also have quite a collection of magazine articles and clippings, thanks to ebay! I hope to get the bio the day it is released. By the way, do you know that his oldest daughter, Bryce, is making her Broadway debut this week?

And I did manage to watch Happy Days tonight, so maybe this is how it starts.

Hi! Welcome to the Boards. Glad you liked the "field trip"
About Ron Howard, I think he's portrayed in such an interesting fashion. He's seen as a nerd on Happy Days, but I wouldn't ignore him if I saw him around. There's just something about him and that Howdy Doody appearance that makes him seem so special and so different. And even though I'm angry that he left Happy Days so abruptly, I think I can never hate him or dislike him in anyway.

But Potsie always gets to me. In the sweetest way possible. In today's world, you don't know many guys like Potsie. While he did say some crude things on the show, he was so innocent and looked so sweet and happy with life.

All of the characters on Happy Days were loaded with faults. Richie was too nice, Potsie was too dumb, Ralph never took anything seriously, Joanie was too stubborn for her own good, Chachi was too lazy, Howard was too stubborn as well and Marion...well, she was a sweetheart of a woman, but she was a bit light headed. Even Fonzie had his faults! Now I'm going to get arrested for saying that. But I think together, the entire cast seems like this amazing bunch of people and their faults and characteristics are highlighted by other characters. The best of those relationships are Richie and Fonzie. They always complimented each other so well. Fonzie would always help Richie, sometimes you can't always be nice and Richie would help Fonzie to see that he can make mistakes (woah!). I think those two were the highlight of the show and they were so amazing together. Everyone always talks about how Potsie walked around with vacant eyes when Ralph left, but look at Fonzie. He seemed like he gave too much to the cast. After Richie left, people just kept on asking and asking and you'd wonder how far can he go. Richie always complimented Fonzie because they helped each other. They made the show a partnership.

And as for watching Happy Days, there's always that one episode that will have you hooked for life.
