Default Is anyone else bummed about ...

the fact that it looks like, once again, we will not be getting our DVD on DVD for Christmas? I was really hoping things might take a turn for the better with Doug and his attempts to get us the whole show on DVD, but it's quite obvious by now that it isn't gonna happen this Christmas.

I've mentioned this a couple of times, but gotten no response from anyone on the forum, so here it goes again: Has ANYONE heard from Doug since he posted here a few months ago about the situation? I've emailed him a number of times but gotten no response at all. I hope he's well and nothing has happened to him.

Well, I usually try to be positive and joyful as Christmas approaches, but this is two years running now when I've had my hopes dashed for a set of DVD on DVD's sitting under my tree.

I think most fans would like to see DVD on DVD (That's a mouthful LOL!). After seeing how a good TV DVD set should be, with the "Mary Tyler Moore" first season, I want to see this show have a similar fate. B&W fan, where did you read about the Time Life release? Could you post a link? (Not that I'm calling you a liar, I just like to read things for myself.)

You can always buy one of those machines that copies VHS tapes onto DVD's and tape them off of TVLand. I think they're only up to episode 9 or so, now and you can catch the first few you missed later on when TVL run's it back around again.

Just a thought...

Personally, I'm not really interested in the episodes as much as the extra footage. I really wish Carl Reiner would rethink the bloopers.

Kristen,

No problem with asking for official confirmation on things you read over the 'net. I do the same thing.

I first heard about the Time-Life deal from Doug Denoff himself (the guy that runs the DVD.com website where we all first heard about possibility of the full set coming out). He posted here a few months ago under a heading of The DVDonDVD truth from Doug Denoff found near the bottom of this first page of messages. I corresponded with him in private email where he told me about the rival Time-Life project, which he also mentions in the post I just referred you to.

On top of that, you can read about the Time-Life deal here.

I wish Doug's work would have come thru, and maybe it still will. But for now, it looks as though our only shot at seeing DVD on DVD is gonna be thru Time-Life (and I don't look forward to their prices nor their "best of" format).

Yea, that is an option. Actually, the recordable DVD's are now coming down in price (I've seen them as cheap as $500.00 - if you can call that cheap). If someone really wanted the show on DVD they could buy one of those and just record it right off TV onto the DVD recorder (works just like a VCR).

However, you'd get cut episodes, instead of uncut, commercial free ones like you'd get if a company made them. That's the one big drawback. But, I will eventually purchase a DVD recorder that hooks right up to my TV and start recording my favorite shows (or I'll transfer my shows on VHS to DVD). I like the DVD recorder better than the machines that you have to hook up to your computer. That's too much trouble for a busy guy like me.

B&W Fan, I haven't heard a peep since the rest of you have. I also haven't tried contacting Doug again either. That time when I got through to him on the first try was certainly a fluke.
Pickles, the only thing about taping the shows off of TV Land is that we're getting the edited versions. The original episodes were several minutes longer. It would also be nice to have them without commercial interruptions. That said, yes, I do have most of it on VHS from TV Land, but don't go by me, I'm an addict!
MTM1 Fan, I agree about the bloopers. They should certainly be included. I sort of understand Carl's sentiment about the characters remaining pristine for the public eye, but let's face it; it's not as if we've never seen these actors in other roles. Besides, who ever sees Carl Reiner, MTM, DVD, Rose Marie, or Richard Deacon to this day and doesn't think of TDVDS?
Here's a thought: Do any of us really want to see tall, handsome and charming Rob Petrie repeatedly bungle a serious line while trying to control 'the giggles'? Or how about seeing sweet, innocent, cutie-pie Laura Petrie flub a line, then blurt out a four-letter word as Jerry Paris yells, "Cut!" Do any of us really want to see that? I do!

Actually, I dont think I would want to, personally...it would sort of make it "too real" for me. I like the mystique, the personna...the ability to "pretend" that the Petries and their world was actually *real*. I'm into fantasy and I wouldnt want that ruined...

You know, Pickles, I understand and appreciate that. What I forgot to include in my previous post was that maybe instead of including bloopers at the end of a program, they could have them all on a separate disk. That way, those who share your sense of wonder and mystique (admirable qualities) would still be able to maintain it, while those who feel as I do would have the option to "peek behind the curtain", so to speak. And don't forget; the actors also did commercials, interviews, and promos for the show. Those could go on this disc as well.
I just think that providing a little something for everyone would help successfully market the collection, and get it out to us sooner!

Smile I'm so happy to have found all of you!

I just wanted to let all of you know how happy I am to have found this site! I have been a DVD fan/addict since I was 8 years old (which was 39 years ago. I, too, was hoping against hope for the complete DVD on DVD by this Christmas. I just read Doug Denoff's post on his official DVD website and my hope has been renewed that it will indeed be released at some time. In the meantime, I taped all episodes off of TV Land and watch those all of the time. I'm so happy to know that there are fellow DVD fans out there! Happy New Year! Lolac
