Default So glad I found you guys!

Hi everybody! I'm so glad I found this messageboard. I had no idea there was a messageboard about Coach, and one with current posts! I'm thrilled that there are others who love this show as much as I do. I started watching it in the 2nd season. The first show I saw was the 2-part episode where Kelly and Stuart break up and then get married. Unfortunately, I've never seen any of the eps from the first season. I don't have cable, so I can't catch them in reruns, either. I hope to eventually get the whole series from Columbia House, if it's still available. In any event, I would love to hear from the rest of you about what got you hooked. What was it when you saw Coach that made you guys realize how awesome the show was?

Thumbs up Good stuff...

Welcome! Great name, highloon--I loved that episode. I missed Coach in its original run. I sort of fell into it when N@N began airing it at 1am in October. I remember the promos beforehand, and just dreading it. I'm not sport's minded, and I thought it was a show about football. I go to bed around that time, so I figured I'd give it a fair shot. It could've been any show. It didn't grab me right away. I honestly think I didn't want to like it. I don't know why, but I think that's true. Maybe I didn't want to prove myself wrong.
Within a week, I was hooked to the point of no return. I started taping it, and my husband I watch it after dinner every night. He loves it too, and he's not a sitcom kind of guy. The football angle keeps him hooked.
Coach has a little something for everyone. For the ladies, there's Craig T. Nelson, who's very easy on the eyes. For the men, there's Shelley Fabares and Clare Carey, both living dolls. It has a lot of fun guest stars associated with the NFL. The show is packed with humor as well as emotion.
One of the best things about Coach is Jerry Van Dyke. This man is a comedic genius. His portrayal of Luther Van Dam is priceless. He can be infuriating, yet so loveable and loyal. It's a shame it took so long for Jerry to get into the mainstream, but I'm glad he finally landed on a hit show. I think he's one of the most underrated comedians in the entertainment industry. He was well-utilized on Coach. They knew a good thing when they saw it. He got tons of onscreen time. Episodes focused on Luther are the best ones in my opinion.
If I could purchase the entire 8 seasons on DVD, I would, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.
I'm up to season 4 now, and with the back-to-back shows starting, I should be able to finish up the show's run in a few months. Of course, the buggers at N@N will probably start it from season 1 again. I should be keeping the shows after I tape them, but I don't. I guess time will tell if the show has, what Nick calls, 'Rewatch-ability'. Of course, I'm waiting for the much-talked about shark jump coming up.
I adore Coach, and I can't figure out why more people don't appreciate it. I'm not easily impressed. I pay for TV via HBO, etc. I know quality when I see it, and Coach is a quality show. It's a smart, clever, hilarious adult comedy.

Default In response to JanLady

Hey JanLady, I'm glad you like my handle. I couldn't resist. "Loonstruck" is one of my all-time favs. My wife and I both love how the Highloon keeps saying, "doesn't matter" to all the objections Hayden raises to being the Highloon. If you remember what I'm talking about, I'm sure you remember how hilarious those scenes were.

Anyway, thanks for responding. It's nice to know you and your husband are enjoying the show, together. Keep watching! I know you're dreading seeing the episodes that jump the shark, but don't worry. They're still entertaining. It's just not the same, and you'll notice it, right off.

Just for the record, what got me watching to begin with was Luther. I agree with you that Jerry Van Dyke is awesome. The guy created one of the funniest and endearing characters in sitcom history. What kept me watching was seeing all these great characters interact with each other. It was never predictable and always hilarious. This show had some of the best writing since the Honeymooners. The writers knew their characters and gave the actors great material to keep those characters developing the whole way! It will always be one of my favorite shows.

Just had the Patriot Bowl show on tonight that I know someone was looking for...

I really hope they show the last few shows of the final season at the end of this run!
