Smile Beaver in Color

I've always wondered if it would've been different if LITB was in color.

One episode I'd love to see in color was the ep where Wally bought that crazy looking suit. Remember that ep? Color usually makes a show lose quality to me (if it started out in b & w, that is), but I'd love to see that one ep in color.

I'd love to see the show in color, I think we'd be surprised. Like Wally's letterman sweater. It looks like its a light color with dark trim in black and white, but its actually a dark color (blue) with yellow trim. I'd love to see everyone's clothes in color, not to mention the actors! From watching NLITB, I know Beaver has VERY light blue eyes, Wally has bright blue eyes, and Eddie has dark blue eyes. I like noticing details like that . Just looking at the few LITB color photos is surprising because it feels like we are missing so much vibrancy and realism. I'm curious about some things, like the color of Wally's and Eddie's hair through the years. Sometimes Wally looks like he has lighter hair, sometimes Eddie does. And Eddie is described as a blond, even in later eps, when his hair becomes darker. But on NLITB, he has light brown hair. I wonder if his hair really darkened that much, or if he was just going grey and colored it brown. I know Ken Osmond and Tony Dow have both colored their hair at least sometimes when they got older becomes sometimes they are nearly all grey, while other times their hair is light brown. I know, I'm weird, but I notice things like that.

Having said that, I DO love the black and white. It's comfortable to the eyes, and just so much a part of LITB. I am going to still hope that someday (though I doubt it), they'll go back and add color to at least a few eps for dvd or something.

As far as the color of the house is concerened, on the Still The Beaver movie, the boys bedroom was VERY boring, just tans and browns. I was expecting more color than that.

But for the new series, when Beaver's boys move in, the walls are painted light blue, their furniture is red and blue and black, they have many posters, a bright fish tank, etc. Other changes made to the house are 2 swinging doors put in from the hallway to the kitchen, the living room is given better flow with the couch facing the fireplace, and Ward's den is converted to basically solely a tv room. Its no longer an office. That part makes me sad, although it would have been cheesy if it became Beaver's den. I think the honor belongs only to Ward. They do get a computer eventually, but it's put in the boys room. The house also has hardwood floors in the foyer and hall. It might have been the same in the original, but its difficult to tell.

I would love to see a few episodes of Leave It To Beaver in color! We would get to see the colors of June's lovely dresses, and see how the house looked inside with color, and how wonderful of a town Mayfield really was. I agree, I think it would have been great to see the Wally's Suit episode colored. I don't know about anyone else, but does anyone even notice it's in black and white when you're watching it? I completely forget about the color issue, and to me, it seems like I'm watching it in color. I don't even notice it's in black and white anymore.

I do think it would be interesting to see Leave it to Beaver in color. Iwonder what Eddie Haskell would look like in color. Or Lumpy, or Wally, or Beaver. I hope someday TVLand airs the shows in color.
