Abbe Lane, the iconic Hollywood singer and actress, has died at the age of 93, according to her son. The bombshell, once called the “Swingingest Sexpot in Show Business,” died of natural causes in Los Angeles on April 25, 2026. Her son, Steven Leff, shared the sad news with The Hollywood Reporter, four months after her passing. Abbe Lane (full name: Abigail Francine Lassman) was born in Brooklyn and began her career as a child star on radio before making her Broadway debut as a teenager. However, she really made a splash in Europe and starred in nearly two dozen Italian movies. Lane also appeared in several American TV programs such as The Dean Martin Show, The Brady Bunch, and The Flying Nun. In 1952, she married Cuban bandleader Xavier Cugat at the age of 16 (he was 49 years old at the time). Lane, who spoke four languages, fronted his Latin music orchestra until their divorce in 1964. She went on to remarry theatrical agent Perry Leff shortly after, and the couple had two sons, Steven and Andrew. Perry died in 2020. Along with her work on-screen, Lane also made headlines for her suggestive comments about fellow Hollywood actresses, including her now iconic, “Jayne Mansfield may turn boys into men, but I take them from there.” In 1960, Lane received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to television. Later in life, Lane wrote the semi-autobiographical novel But Where Is Love?, where she finally opened up about her troubled marriage to Cugat. “Emotionally, I felt I wasn’t ready to go back into my past and relive everything,” she told The Orlando Sentinel in 1993. “I felt that I could sit back and view my characters with greater objectivity and emotional detachment if I wrote it as a novel. I felt the story could stand up… without there being the two protagonists of Cugat and Abbe Lane.” Along with her two sons, Lane is survived by her granddaughter, Kaia. |

I remember The Brady Bunch episode from the first season when Abbe Lane played cosmetic mogul Beebe Gallini who hired Mike to design her new factory. She had a long career as an singer and actress and may she rest in peace.
