TV Stars Who Walked Away From Their Shows: Donald Glover
When Donald Glover joined "Community", he wasn’t a complete stranger to TV work, as he’d been a writer on "30 Rock". Still, it was Dan Harmon’s NBC sitcom that made the comedian a star in front of the camera thanks to his excellent portrayal of jock-nerd Troy Barnes.
Troy was a beloved character, and so it came as a shock to fans when Glover exited the series after the fifth season. While some believed that he left to focus more on his rap career as Childish Gambino, he ended up penning a vulnerable confession in a since-deleted Instagram post. On a series of hotel stationary notes, Glover admitted that he “wanted to be on [his own].” He added, “I didn’t leave Community to rap. I don’t wanna rap.” He also wrote, “I’m afraid Dan Harmon hates me,” and that he’d felt “helpless” and had had a difficult year. However, he ended his notes on a hopeful message: “I wanted to make something that says, no matter how bad you **** up, or mistakes you’ve made during the year, your life, your eternity. You’re always allowed to grow up. If you want.” https://ew.com/tv-stars-who-walked-a...roles-12031077 |
