Nina Dobrev played Elena Gilbert on "The Vampire Diaries", the crucial third in a love triangle between brothers Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley). This dynamic was central to the series, so fans were stunned when Dobrev announced her departure in 2015 while the series was still ongoing.
