One of the most notorious TV exits of all time came when George Clooney left "ER" during the hit medical drama’s fifth season. His character, Dr. Doug Ross, resigned after a conflict of ethics and chose to move to Seattle.
In real life, Clooney’s contract had ended, and he was ready to transition to a full-time film career — a move that couldn’t have been more seamless. While leaving the steady work of TV for the uncertainty of movies comes with a huge risk, it paid off in spades for Clooney, who went on to become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
