On Thursday, the US Food and Drug Administration linked shredded iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bell restaurants in five states to an ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The new information comes as health officials continue investigating a multistate outbreak of the illness that has sickened an estimated nearly 7,000 people, according to CDC estimates -- not all of them tied to the outbreak involving the Taco Bell locations, according to the CDC. Symptoms of cyclosporiasis include watery diarrhea, fatigue and loss of appetite, according to the CDC. Symptoms usually begin about a week after a person becomes infected. Cases have been reported in 34 states, with the bulk of illnesses reported in Michigan. State health officials there have reported 4,312 cases and 102 hospitalizations. In Ohio, state health officials reported 1,244 cases -- up from just under 200 cases at the beginning of July. https://abcnews.com/Health/cyclospor...y?id=134813448 |

Or avoid TacoBell until this outbreak is over
![]() The problem here is that contaminated lettuce comes from company called Taylor Farm which also supply salad to chain restaurants like Chipotle and McDonald's, and big grocery stores, including Costco, Walmart, and Trader Joe's. So it might be wise to stay off lettuce for time being. |

Here in the Midwest, I know Meijer also carries that brand.

Taco Bell/diarrhea jokes have been a staple of American culture for decades, but I used to eat Taco Bell a lot — for years — and it never once made me sick. This is just unfortunate and, hopefully, short lived.

It'll probably cut into their business for a month or two.

I used to work in a building that also had a TacoBell stand and I could see how they prep the food in the back. Everything comes in bag including "cooked" beef or chicken and the way they heat those items are they put it in very hot bath water. Nothing is cooked over stove or put in the oven. So when in Taco Bell, I just get their bean burrito and pass over their meat item menu.

The source of the diarrhea outbreak? You guessed it: Frank Stallone.
