Freddie on Carson at the Start of Season Three (Sept. 1976) - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I watched an appearance of Freddie on Carson the other day (it was a rerun, obviously, ha-ha). It was at the start of season three and Freddie mentioned that Della Reese was joining them. He then said,

“We have better scripts this year. I’m the first to admit that last year, we didn’t have the greatest scripts. I mean, even the laugh track was booing.”

This bothered me because season two is my favorite season. It’s the one I tend to rewatch the most. It’s a shame he wasn’t a fan of it and felt the need to let the audience know that he’s aware it wasn't very good.

I remember that he said that about season 2.
I believe it was a good season, maybe not better than 1 but definitely better than 3 (although I like a few episodes from 3).

When I watched the show on TV Land over 20 years ago, I stated on this message board that season three was my favorite. I still like it, but season two has since surpassed it and become my favorite now.

I'm one of the few people who even likes season four but it's clearly the weakest of the series. They tried throwing everything at it, but it had just lost its identity and was hard to find itself in a post Freddie Prinze world.

I don't really know if season 4 is good or not. I’m sure the actors did their best, but they should’ve ended the show right after Freddie died—or at least by the end of season 3. He was the heart of the show.
Why renew it for a 4th season?
What was Komack thinking?
