I saw Shakira in concert last night. That was probably the best experience of my life. It was such a personal experience too. I've been a fan of hers for a long time and to finally see her in concert was amazing. The audience was so enthusiastic and all were very friendly. It was like one big family. It was also the first time that I had been some place where the majority of the people were Hispanic and looked like me. It was such an inspiring, touching and personal experience. We were so close and i could see everything. She sang so many of her older songs in Spanish as well as some in English. She played both the electric and acoustic guitars, the drums (she was pretty good too.), and the harmonica. She belly danced and at one point she even had one of her band members come out and do the Reggae part to one of her songs. Shakira also sang a few songs that were not hers but it was all good. I spent $140 on stuff (3 shirts, 2 posters, tour book, keychain, etc.). If I had the chance I would see her again. That was the best concert I've been to. I sang and I screamed the whole time. One thing I appreciate about Shakira though, is that she carried the show all by herself without any dancers or any of that stuff. She did, at one point, have this kind of mini movie when she was singing "Octavo Dia". The "mini movie" showed George W. Bush and Saddam Hussein (sp?) playing chess. Towards the middle of the song, Bush and Hussein began to argue and they knocked the chess pieces off the chess board and began to fight. I guess this was supposed to represnt war. And in between some shots, they showed small children who had been wounded in wars. And as the music played and she sang, the two characters o the screen (Hussein and Bush) became puppets. And the Grim Reaper was controlling them. I'm guessing that the Grim Reaper was supposed to represent evil and that evil is what causes people to fight and treat each other badly. Then Shakira began to explain that Pop stars arent supposed to intervene in politics or whatever, but that it was important to give this message to everyone. She explained that we must get along and love one another. For me that was the most powerful part of the show. And the fact that one peson's voice and music could bring so many people together amazed me. On the screen were also many quotes (i dont remember any of em but w/e.). So yeah...at one point, they showed impersonators of Ozzy Osbourne, Elvis, David Bowie and others were in a hospital. I think they were waiting in the emergency of a hospital and some1 was dying and then there was just silence. And then on the screen in big red letters said "ROCK & ROLL WILL NEVER DIE!" and then Shakira started singing a bunch of older rock songs which I thought was pretty cool. Like I said before, the was the best concert I've ever been to. It something I'll never forget.
