I never liked that episode because it didn't make sense. Where was Stephanie's grandmother when Stephanie's mother died? Why didn't she take Stephanie in then-and now all of a sudden she wants her just because Edith has died?

Grandma Harris's excuse was that she did not seek custody of Stephanie when Floyd left her with Archie and Edith because her late husband did not want anything to do with Stephanie.

Never have figured out why these are considered Christmas episodes just because they are set during the holiday season. Other than an Xmas tree I don't think the holiday is ever referenced. In his closing remarks the judge says have a good New Year.
