I remember hearing in an episode that Aunt Martha was never married, considering the values of the time, does that mean she was like a 70 year old virgin? just a thought

I would imagine she probably was. She was so prim and proper, its hard to think of her having pre- marital sex. Or sex at all for that matter.

It is highly probable that Aunt Martha was a virgin. Without sexual experience, she would not have "known what she was missing."
I am going to give a serious response to this discussion. My response is based on my beliefs and my life experiences. I am a Christian and try to live my life according to the standards presented in the Bible (that's all I'm going to say about that. I'm not going to get preachy). Now, on to my experiences. I just retired after 28.75 years as a university professor in a college of nursing. Obstetrical nursing was my specific specialty area. I know that among many young people, sexual abstinence before marriage is viewed as a ridiculous idea. I have seen young women who are suffering the effects of incurable sexually transmitted diseases which they acquired from their spouses who had been infected by sexual partners shared before marriage. Some of these women would have their lifespans shortened because they were infected with AIDS. This really happens. One of the reasons sexual abstinence before marriage is a desirable thing is because you don't know what you are missing. It is much easier to resist a strongly pleasurable temptation if it has never been tried. There are other benefits to sexual abstinence before marriage. I believe it contributes to the stability of marriage and the family as it can be a strong bonding force to share sexual pleasure first with your spouse. You each come to the marriage bed with the same experience. You learn together. You are more likely to be satisfied with the sexual performance of your spouse because you don't compare your spouse with other sexual partners that you have had. You honor your spouse by eliminating the risk of exposing them to diseases that you acquired through previous sexual contacts. Finally, if you are a Christian, you honor Christ by living your life according to the Biblical standard. It is very possible to live a happy, productive life of celibacy. Many have chosen to make this sacrifice and the world is a better place because of the avenues they directed their energies into. I hope you will think about some of the points I have made. I look forward to hearing some of your serious thoughts on the subject.
