Default Pizza Hut Goes Retro

https://nypost.com/2026/05/17/lifest...rant-features/

A Pizza Hut fast-casual restaurant with a red roof, a large "Pizza Hut" sign, and promotional posters in its windows.

The beloved salad bar and red plastic cups will be back.

Even the old-school Pac-Man machines will return.

Others pleaded for Pizza Hut to bring back its OG pizza recipe.

“Go back to the old crust, and I’m in!” an X user suggested.

“The one thing Pizza Hut...won’t be bringing back is the actual original food recipes, ingredients, and cooking methods so it tastes like it did decades ago. I could care less how original the place looks. Make it TASTE the way it [used] to,” chimed in someone else.

There aren't many Pizza Huts around me, in NYC, and the ones that are have counter-only (take out).

The only sit-down Pizza Hut I've been to was up in Saratoga Springs.

Most New Yorkers tend to go to the "real pizzerias" over places like Domino's, Papa John's, Little Caesar's...

No God forbid they do something good!

Pizza hut has become garbage.. The mac salad I loved for years is now made with Miracle whip instead of Mayonnaise and tastes like crap.. I do not goto Pizza Hut anymore...

They sell small Pizza Hut pizzas at some of the Targets in the hot food section. They are really good. I often pick a couple up when I go to Target.

Growing up as a teenager whenever it was Friday afternoons or when she didn't feel like eating school lunch in her high school cafeteria my mother's favorite place to have lunch was Pizza Hut and Mom and some of her high school classmates would get pizza there and my mother always liked Pizza Hut's buffet because she and her classmates would get seconds on pizza and salad. Even when Mom wasn't in high school Mom loved it when her high school crush would invite her to Pizza Hut and they would share a pepperoni pan pizza together. Even when my parents were dating Dad always treated Mom to Pizza Hut and it made her happy. What a surprise that Pizza Hut is returning to it's retro look because that's what made Pizza Hut such a unique pizza place. And they are even bringing back the Pac-Man arcade game too? My mom would love that. I don't have Pizza Hut but I do have a lot of Round Table Pizza restaurants and Little Caesars Pizza and Domino's Pizza restaurants but this is a smart move that Pizza Hut is doing because the classic Pizza Huts were so unique. Do you remember when Pizza Hut had this big jug that looked like a camping canteen and they would fill it up with cola and you brought the jug back if you wanted a refill on your next pizza order? I wonder if Pizza Hut will bring that jug back too as well?

Pizza Hut is like Pringles in the sense that Pringles are not potato chips and Pizza Hut is not pizza, never was. That said, the original Pizza Hut pizza was very good, I took the family there often. The Pizza Hut pizza that's sold at the contemporary Pizza Hut takeout places is terrible, it's a couple of steps above Chuck E. Cheese. So a franchisee bringing back the old look and feel minus the old recipes doesn't make sense. It's a restaurant, ultimately the thing that matters most is the food, the rest is nothing more than window dressing.

Its an insult it was it is!

They are trying to bring back the past CAUSE THEY KNOW IT WAS BETTER. But not bringing the GOOD FOOD back is just aweful!

There's a small pizzeria on 42nd Street east of 5th Avenue I go to every now and then when I'm in Midtown Manhattan and I'm heading towards Grand Central Terminal that's always convenient.

I can’t speak in regards to the macaroni salad, but the pizza hasn’t changed since my childhood. I grew up in the ’80s and ’90s when Pizza Hut was doing that “Book-It” partnership with elementary schools — so I’ve eaten a lot of Pizza Hut. Times change, but the pizza still tastes the same to me now as it did back then.

Dough, tomato sauce, cheese -- I'd say most flavor variations would come from topping choices or quality. I can find no other description of their pizza as "crap," here or anywhere online--so I guess he just needs to go elsewhere.
