Seeing an infomercial for the Muppet Show video collection, brought back fond memories of that show, and it reminded me how much I loved it and miss it now. I use to watch it every night in syndication back in the late 70's; I never could seem to get enough of the muppets. I loved the movies too, with the Muppet Movie being my favorite. I find that even as an adult I still laugh as much at their antics and jokes as I did when I was a kid. In fact, it is easy to see that alot of the humor, similar to the Looney Tunes cartoons, was aimed at adults, and not kids. It seems that every big star of the seventies and early eighties appeared on the variety show and always in clever bits. Tuning in each night, you were never sure what new and outrageous thing you would see next, that's what I loved about the show.
I think that this series is one that TV Land or Nick should consider picking it, but I know it is too old of a show for Nick to even consider it. I am not sure if the Oxygen network's rights have run out yet, or, if the show is even available to be marketed elsewhere. Does anyone know the answer to this? And also, what did you think of this great classic show? |

I can see it possibly on Noggin with a late-night slight or an early-morning slot on the network. Maybe it could go along with some of the children shows that involve muppets, it might work, I'm sure many people would tune in to watch the show again, since it hasn't been on sydication for awhile.

Hallmark still had it towards the end of 2001, though of course it might've run out by now. I remember seeing a 25th Anniversary "The Muppet Show" thing one Saturday on Hallmark Channel, and I taped two episodes off of it. Hopefully another network will pick it up!
