How many here remember the two years (Sep 1990 to Sep 1992 or so) on both ABC AND the syndicated “Merrie Melodies” program, where egregious violence gags were substituted with a brief “still frame” from another part of the cartoon where it occurred?
Obviously *somebody* realized how outright silly that idea was, and it was dropped. Obviously also, as I did online searches about them (for example, whose bright idea it was to use the still-frames, and who decided to stop them, or why these were done), I find absolutely *nada* about the history of this. Is there a place online that goes into detail *at all* about these edits? And for those of you under 35 reading this, NO, I don’t drink. This really happened. Any help would be appreciated. Any examples on YouTube would really be appreciated! cd—-PS, the worst example of it was in “War and Pieces” where a blast to the Coyote’s face was replaced with showing the Roadrunner on a cliff, when the RR was nowhere near it! |

They mention "Chow Hound." MeTV solved that problem--they or WB just shelved that one.
You might remember that cartoon--it's the one whre the dog has the cat going around collecting food--and the dog's line was always, "you forgot the gravy again." By the way, this site is totally packed with ads and popups--it's really a mess. |

Oh man, I have seen Chow Hound. It’s a cartoon, for crying out loud….[Edit: okay I saw it again online, and there is the mouse disguised as the African native.]
And yes, stevea, that last link you had mentions a lot of still-frame edits. Sadly, no video is available when you click on the thumbnail, as the uploader left, I guess. The link MAY have missed a few cartoons with that silly still-frame edit. Yes I also remember the Merrie Melodies syndicated program had “Caveman Inki.” Chutzpah! I’m not sure, but it may have been the last program also that had “Wise Quackers.” Looks like nobody saved those toons with the still-frames. Edit: I have no idea where I was, when that site mentioned ABC & CBS having certain toons that I don’t EVER remember being on those networks. Show Biz Bugs, really?! I remember it on WGN Chicago during the superstation years; and yes the entire final scene was chopped off. It looked as bad as ABC showing “Don’t Give Up the Sheep.” cd |

Warners is getting more daring. They've put "Wise Quackers'' on the new Looney Tunes Collectors' Vault Vol. 2. I think it was also on a Daffy Duck DVD set many years ago, too.
Eventually I'd like to see them pull in some of the banned Bugs cartoons from the 40s and the one banned one from around 1960, Horse Hare. And maybe even break thru with the three Caveman Inki cartoons. And The Mouse that Jack Built. They've got a lot to do lol! |
