Default John Ratzenberger in ABC's The Pennsylvania Miners' Story this Sunday!

"THE PENNSYLVANIA MINERS' STORY" HAS NOVEMBER SWEEPS AIRDATE OF SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 24, ON THE ABC TELEVISION NETWORK

A title and November sweeps airdate of SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 24 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) have been set for "The Pennsylvania Miners' Story," a thrilling movie based on the real-life chronicle of the "nine for nine" coal miners who captivated America this summer. Told from their own perspective, the movie reveals new aspects to their extraordinary experience and, for the first time, takes viewers inside the mine (shot in real mines and stunningly recreated on a soundstage) to show the life-threatening dangers and physical limitations the men faced for 77 hours as they waited for rescue. The movie was shot in many of the actual locations in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, including scenes at the real-life Quecreek mine.

The cast includes William Mapother ("In the Bedroom") as John "Flathead" Phillippi, John Ratzenberger ("Cheers") as Tom "Tuck" Foy, John David Souther ("Providence") as Dennis "Harpo" Hall and Marisa Ryan ("Mind of the Married Man") as Leslie Mayhugh. Emmy-winning David Frankel ("Band of Brothers") directs from a script by Elwood Reid (author and screenwriter of the book and film, "If I Don't Six"). Veteran producer Larry Sanitsky ("The Last Don," "Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All"), of The Sanitsky Company, is executive producer and Jack Clements ("Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All") is producer. The telefilm is produced by Touchstone Television Productions, LLC in association with The Sanitsky Company.

ABC's publishing arm, Hyperion, will publish the hardcover, Our Story: 77 Hours that Tested our Friendship and our Faith, written by the Quecreek miners as told to Jeff Goodell. The book's publication date is November 13, 2002.

thats really cool

Somerset is about only 40 minutes away for me. i havent been able to visit the miners tribute (or the 9-11 crash site) yet, unfortunately.

from previews, it shows clips of news coverage. that's the actual, real news coverage, from our local ABC channel WTAE 4 (which, coincidentally, is also the local Cheers syndication channel , for anyone who's asked "What's that big "4" mean in ur syndication themes?"). i just thought that was cool too. i remember watching the coverage live, and I (think) I actually remember the part from the preview, where the lady (Wendy Bell) is standing at the site. i also remember when they were all rescued, the same lady, then in the newsroom, must have jumped like a foot in the air from excitement w/ the other newscaster lol

off topic, from the preview (which is national, i think), PA's governor (mark s...cant spell his last name) made the exact same statement when they were all found alive ("All 9 are alive") for the movie (scarily the same scene haha)

Yeah it was great. Very sad story with a great ending. I wonder if the real coal miner's like it or not?

Was the movie based on a book written by them...?

i'll let i see these if i ever get videos up lol

after the movie, the news (the same ch. 4) did a behind-the-scenes special on it. they actually asked the real miners and rescue workers if it was accurately portrayed in the movie, and they said it was scarily the same. again, i think i might just make these crappy quality videos and just post them someplace, since its just news
