Default Youre favorite Laura outfit

...Mine is the cute outfit in "Long nights journey into day", the dark turtleneck, plaid skirt, dark stockings and light ankle boots. I had a pair of those boots back them...I loved those...

But this is the cutest outfit she wore! At least, in my humble opinion LOL

Whats yours?

I like the one she wore in 'October Eve'.
No, not the naked one, silly buttons! The one that she wore while she was being painted. It was a simple long sleeved shirt, a pair of pants, and some type of scarf around the collar. I like it because it looks so incredibly comfortable.

I love the dress she wore at the end of "The Two Faces of Rob". That was the one where Rob disguised his voice on the phone to make Laura think he was someone else. After he stood her up, she came home in that wonderful dress. I wish I knew what color it was, but with black and white, I can't tell for sure.

I know I have other favorites, but that was the one that came to mind first.

Pickles,
I absolutely *love* this topic! Thanks for bringing it up. Having said that, I must confess, I don't know what my favorite outfit of Laura's is! And yes, I do pay attention. It would be too easy say she looked great in everthing she wore, but it's so hard to pick just one favorite. I'll probably have to get back to you on that. But I just wanted to say, "great topic"!

Thumbs up

Yes, good topic! (Good thing you showed up Pickles, it's finally lively around here again! Can you come to some of my other dead message boards? ) I love the dress in (I think) 'A Show of Hands', it's long and black and really flowy. Also the white dress she wears when her and Rob sing 'Mountain Greenery' is also a favourite of mine.

Just glad I could help

You guys reminded me of some more of the gorgeous clothing provided to MTM as Luara Petrie. Of all of the DVD episodes I've watched, I just cant recall who her wardrobe people were. Whomever they were, they certainly did a smash-up job. She was the fashion-plate of the 60s. I brought this subject up not only because I have always had a fondness for fashion, (probably due to Laura!), but because I'm on a message board for my favorite soap opera and they have been complaing loudly about the fashions being worn by the younger set on this program. I swear, one of the girls was wearing Buddy Sorrell's hat!! Has anyone else noticed the 60s styles are creeping back in - or is it just wishful thinking on my part?

I think Laura always dressed nicely, very neat and feminine. I think there was a big deal made about her wearing pants (weren't they called capri pants?). But if you remember, earlier female tv characters (Lucy, even June Cleaver, Joan Davis, etc.) also occasionally wore pants, although they were more like slacks.

Also, do you think there was a bit of a Jackie Kennedy influence in the style of Laura Petrie?

Peace ~

I love the outfit she wore in the opening and slight variation of it,
with and without slight sleeves,
showed up in maybe a dozen episodes.
And I loved them all. I thought that
the sexiest outfit I ever saw and she never looked better. (And that in itself guarantees a great episode.)
There's a song about women looking their best in everyday clothes and,
to me, that was it for Mary/Laura.
And, yet, even though that was my favorite, I thought Mary's clothes
the first two years on her own show
were the most attractive, and yet down to earth, I've ever seen an actress wear. To this day. And they
were totally in character and, like on DVD, they would repeat outfits--
just like in life. Great everyday clothes. Later on, she basically dropped that idea (a mistake) and
wanted to look more ritzy.

I just saw another outfit I like...todays ep, where Rob has to entertain a sponsor for the AB show just as his old Army pal, Sol comes to town. That black dress she wore at the dinner party. Dark and elegant, yet not truly fancy, with the sequins around the neckline and the cap sleeves and flirty skirt. This is a very CUTE dress!! Simple, stylish, chic.

I WANT ONE!!

Pickles,
After mulling this over, I think I'd have to conclude that I like Laura in any outfit, as long as she's weraring those Capri pants. That's not to say that I don't adore her in an evening dress, or get giddy over her in a pair of shorts or a tennis skirt, but there's just something about those Capris that does it for me. She wears them like no one else.

Whenever I watch this show, it feels like you have magically travelled back to the early 1960s. Laura and her clothes have always brought a Jackie Kennedy feeling to mind. The Petries have brought a "fresh young American couple" style to tv back then.
