The Community Center
Jo sits down at her desk to do some paperwork.
Rick then enters with a young boy.
Rick: Jo this is Daniel Anderson.
Jo: Hi Daniel.
Daniel : Hi. (low voice)
Jo: How old are you
Daniel: Nine (low voice)
Jo: So what's the story on Daniel?
Rick:Well his father is alcoholic and got in a fight with the boy's mother a couple of months ago,The mother took the younger sister with her to live in Chicago and left Daniel alone to live
with his very unstable father.
Daniel: He almost broke my right arm.(low voice)
Jo: Really,how come?
Daniel: Because I told my principal at school about the fight and
he called Daddy at work and when I came home from school,Daddy twisted my right arm and I cried.(sobbing)
Jo: Did he say anything to you?
Daniel: He said next time if I told,he'd kil me. (sobbing )
Jo: It's okay,belive me it's okay. ( she then hugs him)

So what do you think so far.

Thanks for the review,keep them coming,I'll post more later as you all know it's Thanksgiving week,and if my family doesn't in my way,I'll write some more ,but I pretty much doubt that one!

of Daddy and the things he would do to me.
Jo:Did anyone do anything about this ?
Daniel:Mrs.Winters,an old lady whose our neighbor is real mean
and she called the police one night when Daddy was screaming.
Jo: What did the police do?
Daniel: They said Daddy has to go to court and now he's mad
at me because he might have to go to jail,but the police said
I may have to live in a foster home,but I don't want to
because foster parents are mean to little kids.
Jo: Well I have an idea,there is a boy who lives in my house,
he's fifteen and his name is Andy and he used to live in a foster
home when he was little,maybe if you come home with me I let
you talk to him and he can tell you what foster homes are like
Jo: Rick ,Daniek and I will be right back.
Rick: Sure take your time.
They leave the Center.

a Saturday morning?,I just doing the breakfast dishes.

Beverly Ann: He went to the store with Tootie,we needed
more milk bread,cereal,butter and eggs,they should return in awhile.
Jo:Great! thanks,oh by the way Beverly Ann this here is
Daniel Anderson,a boy I met at the Center.
Beverly Ann: Hello Daniel,I'm Beverly Ann.
Daniel: Hi Beverly Ann.
There's a knock at the door.
Tootie:We're back,Andy careful with the last bag that's where
they put the eggs okay,shouts from front door,
Andy shouts from car

Tootie puts away the groceries and goes back to the living room.
Andy enters and Jo intoduces them both.
Jo: Daniek,this is Tootie and Andy.
Daniel:What kind of name is Tootie?
Tootie:My real name is Dorothy,They callme Tootie for short.
Daniel: Oh.
Andy:Hi Daniel,I'm Andy
Daniel:Hi Andy.
Jo:Andy,I need to ask you a favor,Daniel is going to live in a foster home soon,so can you please tell him what they're like.
Andy: Sure.
Jo: Thanks.
Andy:Well Daniel a foster home was scary at first,but soon
I liked,other kids came to live there,and was like having a mom,dad,brothers and sisters again.
Daniel:Were your foster mom and daddy meank
Andy:No,they took out for picnics,the amusement park and sometimes a baseball game.
Daniel: Wow!I like baseball!
Andy: Who's your favorite team?
Daniel:The Yankees,I used to live in Harlem.
Andy:Hey Jo,did you hear that he's likes the Yankees.
Jo: Really Daniel well so do I!
Daniel:a girl that likes baseball?,that's funny.
Andy:That's not all she likes,in fact did you see a motorcycle
parked outside in the front when you came in?
Daniel:Yes,why?
Andy: That belongs to her too.
Daniel: You like motorcylces too?
Jo: Sure do,had that once since I was 16,when I first came here.
Daniel: Did you live a foster home too?
Jo: No,see I'm from The Bronx,but I came here to go to school
and now I live here and work at the Center.

Daniel:You're The Bronx?,I'm from Harlem,I live a apartment that
only has two rooms,I used to share the second with my little sister Emily,she's only six,but then after Mommy and Daddy got in a fight,Mommy took Emily with her and they went to Chicago because that's where my grandma lives,so they went to live with
her and she me to live with my dad.
Tootie comes in as they are talking.
Tootie:Would anyone like anything to drink?
Andy: No thank you.
Jo: Just some water please.
Beverly Ann:No thank you,I just had some coffee.
Tootie:How about you Daniel,we have milk or orange juice.
Daniel: Can I have some milk please?
Tootie: Sure, she goes to into the kitchen.
Daniel:This is a nice house,I wish I lived here,it's so big.
Beverly Ann:Why thank you Daniel .
There is a knock at the door,
Blair and her boyfriend Mark enter
Blair:Hi everyone!,Mark just put my paperwork folder on the table
I'll do it later when I'm not busy ok.
Mark: Okay.
Blair notices Daniel
Blair:And who is this?
Jo:Blair,Mark,this is Daniel Anderson,a boy from the Center.
Blair:Hi Daniel,I'm Blair Warner.
Daniel: Hi Blair.
Mark:And I'm Mark Davis,Blair's boyfriend.
Daniel: Hi Mark.
Natalie bursts into the living room angrily
Natalie:That Henry Winters,I asked him if they still were hiring at the Peekskill Press,but he said my articles weren't good enough!,
I hate that man!,he is always critizing my work!,Ugh!!!!!
Tootie:Natalie calm down!,everyone laughs
Natalie: Sorry,I didn't know we had company.
Jo:It's ok ,Natalie,this here is Daniel Anderson.
Natalie:Hi Daniel,I'm Natalie Green.
Jo

aniel visits the Center often for counseling.
Natalie:Well nice to meet you,but I can't talk right now,I have
to rewrite some news stories,so later everybody.
She then goes upstairs.
Daniel:Jo?
Jo:Yes,Daniel?
Daniel:You think I could live here,I mean everybody's nice to me,
and then I wouldn't have to go live a foster home.
Jo:Well Daniel,I don't know.
Daniel:Please.
Jo:We'll see okay.
Daniel :OK.
Two months go by,and so does Thanksgiving,It is now
Christmas Day,two days before Daniel's father goes to court.
Jo:Morning,everyone,she says as she enters the kitchen,
Blair's on the phone,saying Merry Christmas to her Mom,and then
she tell Bailey Happy Birthday
Blair gets off the phone,everyone else comes into the kitchen
Beverly Ann:Morning,Merry Christmas Tootie,
Tootie:Merry Christmas Andy.
Andy:Merry Christmas Natalie.
Natalie: Merry Christmas Blair.
Blair turns to Jo,but Jo loses it before she says anything,
Jo:Hey!cool it,This is not The Waltons!,besides I got work do!
Blair:Well aren't we in a foul mood for the holidays?
Jo: Look Blair,I'm not in the mood for your games!,I know it's Christmas Day!,but I got up work right up the wazoo!,and the only
thing I ask right now is that no one bothers me,and then after
I can get done all you can waste time getting on my nerves!
Everyone is dismased by the angry tone in Jo's voice
.
Two days later, At the Harlem Court house,
Judge:Mr.Steven Anderson,you're in no condition what's so
ever to raise your son,and until control your drinking,I'm sentencing you to three years rehabilitation at the Alcoholics
Anonymous Center in New York City.
Judge

aniel,son your mother has refused to take you in,and so
you are in the foster care of Mr.and Mrs.David Phillips,but you
may still go to The Peekskill Community Center .
Daniel:Yea!
Jo smiles at Daniel as she hands a file folder to Mr.Phillips.
Mr.Phillips:Thank you,we've always wanted a son.
And so Daniel moved in with his foster family,he was now
happy to be with people who loved him,was safe from his
father and now visits the Center regularly,if though he would
have like to live with Jo and the gang
