Question Do You Attend Class Reunions?

Friend and I were talking recently and I told him that I don't go to those things because I already am in touch with those I care to be.

I'm not going to pretend to be all friendly with people I haven't seen decades after I graduated when we didn't speak to each other in school. Not that we didn't like one another, just different circles and we didn't connect.

Another thing, this mostly applies to my high school, they seem to only want the "star students" to attend. Of course, everyone gets an invite by mail (or email), but if you weren't in the Honors Program (former valedictorian), involved in athletics or student affairs then you're not really who they want there.

They want the students who have gone on "to great things" to show off in their Alumni newsletters. If you were an average student, or one who barely got by and hated school, they won't have anything to promote with you.

No. Funny I live not too far from my high school, and I have never gotten an announcement for a reunion. I know they have them.

I'm not at all interested.

High school was okay. I'm connected with people I want to be connected with on FB.

No, mainly because those former classmates I'd rather not see again, to me, outweighs how many I'd be interested in 're-meeting.'

I agree with your comments. I wasn't particularly fond of my school years, so attending reunions isn't something I'd be interested in. I got decent grades in school, but after it was all over I was just glad to be out of there. Last year, 2025 was my 50th anniversary graduating from 8th grade/grammar school. 2029 will be my 50th anniversary graduating from high school.

No for I wasn't treated very well at the last one, the 15th reunion. I never was buddies with any of the girls or boys Then this year will be my 50th and had yet to see a announcement to attend . The last 2 times I went they had the gathering at somewhat dumpy place and I doubt the organizers would change that. The price will be at least $50.00 to attend. Sadly many of the classmates have passed away. The people I would have like to see are dead.

Class Reunion is really a misleading term, it's really a gathering of school enthusiasts from a particular year or years. I want to clear, I do not mean that in a pejorative way. If someone didn't make a lot of friends, didn't participate in after school activities, didn't go to mixers, didn't go to plays put on by the drama club, didn't attend athletic events or band competitions, didn't excel scholastically, what could they possibly hope to get out of reuniting with people who did at least some of those things.

I was surprised to learn that 40% of people surveyed have attended a reunion at least once. I expected the figure to be lower. The average reunion has a participation level ranging from 20 to 30 percent. Anything above 30 percent would be considered a very successful reunion.

I've been to a couple of them. I didn't like our 5 year reunion, but our 20 year reunion was enjoyable. Our 30 year reunion is next month. I plan on going.
