Production No. 16172 - "The Credit Card"
As the episode opens Eddie is bragging to Wally and Beaver about his new gas credit card, and suggests Wally ask his dad for one; later at the dinner table, Ward flatly refuses. Later, as Wally, Lumpy, and Eddie try to get going in Wally's car, it won't start. A push doesn't do the job; at a service station, the attendant tests the battery and it's dead. The boys don't have the cash for the bill, and Eddie puts the charge on his credit card. Later, the boys relate the story of the car trouble to Ward and June, and Wally repays Eddie with money he had saved up for seat covers. Yet later, Clarence spots a vest in a store window, and immediately Eddie wants it. He buys it with Wally's repaid cash. Later, Eddie's dad gets the credit card bill, does some detective work, and finds out the charge was for Wally's car battery. He immediately calls Ward, who implies to George, Eddie's father, that he assumes Wally paid Eddie back. The two get a little testy and afterward Ward vents a little to June. Beaver overhears and his parents dismiss him; as he walks outside Wally pulls up in the car. Beaver relates the George Haskell situation to Wally, who knows where Eddie is--with Lumpy. Wally zips over there and threatens Eddie. A little later Clarence shows up at the Cleaver house and relates that Eddie paid his father for the credit card charge. Production No. 16173 - "Uncle Billy's Visit" June informs Ward they've been invited by Gladys Miller to spend the weekend up at the lake. They trade ideas for someone to stay with the boys (huh? - they left Wally in charge 3 years ago when Beaver let the bathtub overflow, but he should be beyond that now) when Uncle Billy calls. Billy suggests Ward and June go away; he'll be glad to stay with the boys. He creates an easy atmosphere for the boys, until Beaver is caught opening an exit door to admit Gilbert to a movie theater for free. Billy reads Beaver the riot act at the theater, and later at home. Beaver is disappointed in Uncle Billy, until he doesn't relate the Beaver incident to Ward and June. Beaver thanks Uncle Billy, who considers it a closed incident. Production No. 16174 - "Beaver on TV" Beaver comes home, excited that he is going to appears on a TV program, "Teenage Forum." Mrs. Rayburn is thrilled, and gets a TV so the class can watch. Fred and Ward also watch at the office. Before the program starts, the director informs the panelists that their program is taped and won't be seen until next week; however, Beaver is out getting a drink and misses that spiel. Later, the viewers are puzzled, and Mrs. Rayburn is irritated, that Beaver wasn't on the show. When Beaver appears at school, the kids razz him; he leavers, afraid to reappear in class. Gilbert finds him, and compares the situation to "The Twilight Zone." Eventually Beaver gets home and Ward explained that he found out what happened. A week later the class watches Beaver's appearance. Production No. 16175 - "Box Office Attraction" Wally is attracted to the movie ticket taker, Marlene Holmes. With prodding from Eddie, and with Beaver and Gilbert spying on them, he summons up the courage to ask her for a date. Later, Beaver and Gilbert see Marlene in a local bar, Hank's Place, and Gilbert pronounces her "a woman of the world." She was drinking and smoking. June suggests to Wally that he invite her to dinner before their date; he does. Later after they leave, Marlene tells Wally she thinks she passed the inspection. Beaver tells Ward and June he saw her at Hank's Place, adding to their concern. Wally begins to think he's in over his head after Marlene becomes overly amorous. Then she directs him to Hank's Place. Wally realizes he's out of place and she nicely suggests he leave, and that she'll get home OK. |

The references to Bennett Cerf, Jack Paar (crying), Angela Valentine in the Jackie Kennedy wig, Rod Serling/Twilight Zone, and Route 66, are all in "Beaver on TV."

I think these were all strong episodes. I liked the self-referential TV references in "Beaver on TV." "Box Office Attraction" was one of the most memorable from the last season. Did the pop culture references become more frequent in the last season?
