OK...here's a question, and since religion ones usually get good responses....
Have you ever questioned your religion? Or just felt like God had completely turned his back on you? (if you believe in God) |

I don't believe in God. But I've questioned the history of my religion and I hate all the rules against women. |

I believe in God, but I don't trust organized religion. I doubt He cares whether or not I go to church. Like Mrs. O'Brien said, I'm a good girl.

I believe in God now but I did have a few years where I began questioning. Just because a lot of crap had happened and I didnt know why He would do that to me and someone at church had told me that it was "meant to happen" and that got me soooooooo mad because i still dont know why some of it happened.

My 'family' has always been pretty religious, so I was raised in church and heard about God all my life......and until I was 13, I went along with it all, and never asked any questions. Then I started "questioning my faith". What I "believed" weren't even 'my' beliefs at all, but what everyone else has been TELLING me to believe for my entire life. And, ya, I questioned whether God even existed. I mean, there's no proof, no explanations, or any"good" reasons why he might. As for the Bible, that could EASILY have been a bunch of made up stories, written by people who wanted to keep order. Plus, we had been learning about religion in school, and heard about how during some time period (Like 100 yrs, I dunno the dates..), people just REwrote the bible to fit their needs. But then, finally, someone rewrote the ORIGINAL version again, and everything was "ok". But, if this went on for 100 years, and there were so many different versions, uhhhh, how could ANY1 possibly know what the "original" one was? Ya, ok well anywayz, I finally just realized that not everything NEEDS explaining. So, I believe in God, and some other things. However, I don't believe in some of the things 'my' religion teaches... Annnnnnd..... that's all I have to say about that. haha

Organised religion scares the crap out of me!
I wasn't raised in a religious family but the primary school I went to (primary school is what you attend between the ages of 5 and 12) practically rammed it down my throat at every opportunity. I know young children are impressionable but I never really took in what I was taught about Christianity at school. In fact, the older I got, the more I really began to resent the way that we were told that Christianity was the only way. To my mind, children should be taught, impartially, about all major religions - not to be force-fed only one. Although I personally don't believe in it, I'm not against Christianity itself. What I do take issue with is when people try to maintain that it's God's way or nothing at all and those who don't believe are going to hell. That just sickens and angers me. If I had a quid for every self-righteous Christian who has called me a "sinner" then I'd be a very rich woman. What ever happened to "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"? Are you telling me that these Christians who are condemning me have never put a foot wrong in their lives? I doubt it! I also take issue with that fact that, as far as the Bible is concerned, I am evil cos I'm gay - why should I be condemned because of that?! And doesn't the Bible say that we should love everyone unconditionally? Of doesn't that include gay people? Hmmmmm, bit of a contradiction there, me thinks.....! Religeon isn't for me. It's too judgemental. I'm my own person and I'll live by my own rules. As long as I don't harm anyone else in the process then I don't see why I should go to hell. As far as I'm concerned, heaven and hell are just states of mind. I don't like the idea that there's someone up there, sitting on a cloud, who has our lives already all planned out for us. I'll make my own way in the world thank you very much. Like I said before, I don't dislike all Christians. If believing in a higher power helps you guys sleep at night then good for you. It just doesn't work for me, that's all. Mossopp. |
