Valentine's Day 1985 is a milestone date in music for that is the day that we were first introduced to the talent of Whitney Houston when she debuted her self-titled album. When Saving All My Love For You debuted on the charts people knew Whitney Houston was gonna be big in the years to follow. And when hearing her famous duet with Teddy Pendergrass called Hold Me you can hear her talent throughout the song. But it's The Greatest Love Of All that many considered the best song of Whitney Houston's self-titled debut. I remember buying this album and was amazed at how talented Whitney sounded and for a great artist she sounded awesome on this album
Do you remember buying Whitney Houston's debut album when it debuted? |

Whitney 1985 debut albums had many great songs including the one you mentioned, but probably most popular on that album was the song "How Will I Know". It had more Pop and up-tempo flavor than Greatest Love Of All (as being a ballad), and more FM radio and MTV friendly.

Whitney Houston's debut album was actually the second Whitney Houston album I got and when I got my copy of it I was amazed at how wonderful Whitney Houston sounded and for being in her 20's she really brought a lot to the table. I think that with How Will I Know they were planning to market Whitney Houston as a dance-pop singer because that song is very 80's. But it's ballads like All At Once "which is actually a cover of a Jeffrey Osborne song" that she shines the most. But how Whitney Houston and Jermaine Jackson were able to score two duets in Take Good Care Of My Heart and Nobody Loves me Like You Do "which was also covered by Anne Murray and the late Dave Loggins" in this album is genius because I think Whitney was planning to do a duet album with Jermaine Jackson but the deal fell through but when paired with Jermaine on this Whitney worked her magic. I think in general this album was an impressive debut for Whitney Houston but her superstardom wouldn't take off like a rocket until 1987 when the Whitney album was released

Were the songs Someone For Me and Take Good Care Of My Heart released as singles from Whitney Houston's debut album? Because I remember radio stations used to play those Whitney Houston songs a lot. And how many copies did the album sell?

I think that if you were to look at the whole discography of Whitney Houston I can say that Whitney Houston's self-titled album is the one album that everybody had high hopes for. Because I think people were afraid that Whitney Houston would become a one-hit wonder but the people were wrong. Because this album was not only a monster hit it was a masterpiece and a work of art. But when 1987's Whitney album came out Whitney Houston's popularity soared even higher. But I would to see a Whitney Houston album filled with unreleased b-side songs from this album in the future because I bet there are lots of unreleased songs from Whitney Houston's debut album that didn't make the cut
