I really am not trying to upset anyone, and it’s hard for me to post this because I feel like I’m not allowed to have my own feelings or opinions anymore. Why do they have to point out EVERYTHING that’s “offensive?” Just to be told “you’re such a good person!!!”? The Tokyo rewatch really bugged me and I couldn’t even finish it. There are so many worse things people can say, and they get upset just because Uncle Jesse name drops Japanese pop culture and car brands. Also, getting upset because Stephanie says “you got gypped” in another episode. I can’t understand the need for this. If there was a Blackface gag or something, that’s totally different. I’m a huge fan of the 1980s NBC sitcom Gimme a Break (starring the late Nell Carter) and yes some of the jokes did not age very well. Especially the episode when Joey does an Al Jolson impression at a CHURCH … in blackface. That episode was made in 1984 and Nell (the character) still got very upset about it. I’m also a big Lucy fan and I absolutely love the Operetta episode where Lucy is the Queen of the GYP GYP GYP GYPSIES!!! There’s several very dated bits on Lucy as well, even in The Lucy Show and Here’s Lucy. But I don’t care! It’s still hysterically funny!
But now I’m not looking forward to the rest of the rewatches. Also, Jodie isn’t the nicest person based on some of her previous Instagram posts. Had to unfollow her. I don’t care what political side you’re on, it’s not cool to make extremely hateful posts like that, and then be super rude to people who point out the reality and truth. I would know way better than that if I were a former child star on a beloved 80s/90s sitcom. And again, doesn’t matter what political side you are on. I’m there to hear behind the scenes stories and their feelings about the episode itself and some of the logic. Nothing else. And I know it’s not every single post but you never know. |
