Any original stores from the I-70 killer?

I heard most of the stores closed up later on and new stores took over. Did at least 1 original mom & pop store still remain to this very day?!

As we all know with time, small stores especially, close down or others take over. Some destroy a mall complex that is too old and build another outside mall in its place. If new stores took over any of the original 1992 ones, that were robbed in 1992, are any still up in original fashion?

Or is there an old forum that discussed the I-70 route stores?

I drove by Dexter Stefonek's gas station & house a few years ago. The house is still there. Even the old gas station building is still there! Minus the pumps, but looks different, some garage windows are boarded up.

If you’re meaning just the original structure, as best I can tell it looks like they all still are standing in somewhat the same form as I would have expected them to look in 1992, with the exception of the ceramics store where Michael McCown was killed.

As mentioned, the building that was once Sylvia’s Ceramics and the site of the Michael McCown murder, looks to be gone. The address was 2615 s 3rd st in Terre Haute, but that address no longer exists and it looks like a gas station now stands where that once was

Amy Vess was murdered in Arlington Texas at a Dancers Closet Store on Nov 1, 1993. The murder was similar to the IH 70 killings. Small boutique store same type of weapon, but not the same weapon. Also close to two major freeways. It was the reason that RS mentions Arlington Texas at the end of the segment.

I always forget about this location and it's affiliation with UM. I don't think I mention it with the other more well known DFW segments. It is very close to where my wife grew up and graduated from the high school just around the corner from there. I used to eat at the Cafe Acapulco when I was a kid. In the early 90's just before the time that Amy was murdered, I often ate there with my family. it was my mom and dad's favorite Mexican restaurant in that time period. I still eat at the Braums Ice Cream Restaurant when I go to visit my wife's family there, which is also right next to this shopping center.

At the end of the day I don't know that it is the same perpetrator, but I thought I would share this.

The location of the store in 1993 was 4001 W. Green Oaks Blvd in Arlington Texas. The same building and shopping center is still there. But Dancer's Closet is not there anymore. There is another Dancer's Closet in another shopping center across the road from here. not sure why it moved or if it is even owned by the same company.

Robin Fuldauer was killed on April 8, 1992 in the Payless Shoe Source at
8180 Pendleton Pike
Indianapolis, IN 46226
The Payless Shoe Source had rustbelted by July 2007 at the latest, but possibly long before that, replaced by a low rent looking furniture store. From that point until now there have been 3 more low rent rental places interspersed with the building being vacant before it was subdivided into 2 units with half currently a dental office and half a barber.
I can say the same building however has been there since 1992.

Patricia Magers and Patricia Smith were murdered on April 11, 1992 at the La Bride d'Elegance bridal shop at
4613 E Kellogg Dr
Wichita, KS 67218
The lack of any mentions of the business after 1992 and the death of two people in the location makes me think it likely never reopened.
I'm less certain of the fate of this location. Some sources point to a building which is still standing, a sort of mini mall. Others point to a building next door that was demolished sometime between 1996 and 2000.

Michael McCown was killed on April 27, 1992 in his mother Sylvia's ceramics store at

Again I'm not certain if the building is still standing or not. There is a building at that location today, unsure if it was there in 1992 or if the building that previously occupied the location was the site of the murder.
Based on Sylvia's obituary the store closed in 1992, my guess is that it never reopened following the homicide.

Nancy Kitzmiller was killed on May 3, 1992 at Boot Village, a footwear shop at
2079 Zumbehl Rd
St Charles, MO 63303
This was a large strip mall which is still there, so the building remains. Again, no definite date for the closure of the store is available. It appears on mapquest which makes me wonder if it did stay open into perhaps the early 2000's or so.

Sarah Blessing was killed on May 7, 1992 in her gift shop, Store of Many Colors

This was the Woodson Village Shopping Center which is still there. And as with the others a definite closure date is not available, although given that it was a family business I suspect it never reopened.

Mary Ann Glasscock was killed on September 25, 1993, in the Emporium Antiques store at
4709 Bryce Ave
Fort Worth, TX 76107
The building is still there, and has a Needlework shop in it at present. Given that Glasscock was the owner I again suspect it never reopened.

This complex of buildings is still there. No records exist for the closure of the business, which makes me think it did not survive into the 2000's.

Hmm, the mystery deepens a bit. I did some more digging and came up with 2 filings for the incorporation.

interestingly the dissolution date for this one was not until 2006

well the December 1993 correlates with the store closing along with Amy's murder. that's kind of what I was thinking may have happened but never knew for sure. I only knew that it moved because a poster here, ND Alumn, told me about it as we both grew up in Arlington. I've been in that area countless times and never noticed the Dancer's Closet Store that is there now on the other side of the BLVD. I'll try and remember to stop into the store when I'm in that area.
