Default Kirstey Alley overshadowed

Does anybody feel as in the final episode One for the road that KIRSTEY ALLEY's role was overshadowed by the return of SHELLEY LONG. The episode's main theme is Sam and Diane after Long left the series for six years she comes back and steals the show Alley who never abandoned the show and had more seinority than Long was overshadowed for the most part in the final episode. If I were Kirstey Alley I would feel like a reject she had like 10 lines in the final episode. Shelley Long said goodbye when she left in '87 the moment belonged to Kirstey Alley and it was stolen by Shelley Long.

what do you think

I'm a Diane fan, and not wild over Rebecca, but you make a very good argument and I agree. It might have been a good idea to have Diane come back a few episodes prior and leave her out of the finale altogether. This would have given the current cast members more air time, including Kirstie Alley.
I think that Shelley did steal Kirstie's thunder, but with the networks, it's all about ratings and not feelings.

I disagree... Yeah, it was about the ratings and people wanted to see what would happen with Sam and Diane, but Rebecca was getting old... her character was boring and whiney! Yeah, she had more years on Shelley but Shelley was one of the reasons that the show was as popular as it was!!! Kirstie Alley came on and kind of had to take over for her and didn't do a good job I have to say... but then again, I am biased towards Shelley and she would kill me if I took Kirstie's side Just kidding but she would be hurt! Anyway, back to the topic at hand! I know, that the only reason I watched the Finale was because of Shelley and I have to say that I was more than a bit disappointed with the LACK of airtime I thought she got. She also didn't have a very good send off on the final episode I didn't think... she never really said bye! Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that I disagree... and now I am confusing myself...

Sorry I have to disagree, many people may have liked Diane but when Rebecca was on the show it was number 1. So I guess some people liked Rebecca. I am glad Diane was in the finale though.

The show was also number when Diane was on the show! You have to admit, that Diane and Sam's relationship was one of the core reasons people watched. I can't tell you how many times, I have heard how pathetic the show got after Rebecca came on... I will admit, that it was good when she gave Sam attitude but they changed her character from a do-it-yourselfer to this annoying whiney person who couldn't do anything without a boyfriend or money! And I think that was very much reflected in the Final episode!

It was Shelley's show too. In the beginning Both she and Ted shared opening credits. We had to play catchup with Diane, after all we hadn't seen her in six years but have had Kirstie which is not a bad thing either.

I agree with on everything ACCEPT "but have had Kirstie which is not a bad thing either" I have to disagree... I just couldn't stand that character and I am NOT a fan of Kirstie Alley... anymore anyway... I loved the character of Diane Chambers and I love Shelley even more, and I don't appreciate the things that Kirstie has said about Shelley!

I have to disagree with TeamShelley. Kirstie Alley is an awesome actress and did a much better job playing Rebecca Howe then Shelley Long ever did playing Diane Chambers. Not only is Kirstie Alley a better actress the character of Rebecca howe was a much more interesting one. Diane Chambers got really boring near the end of her years.

Just my opinion though.

PLEASE DONT KILL ME!!!!!

You know what? Becaus you said Please, I'm not going to kill you But like I said before, I disagree about Rebecca not being boring... it was the same thing over and over again, she was whining and needy... it got old.. to me anyway! Also, I'm biased towards Shelley and she would probably kill me if she saw me talking trash about her and her character! Oh yeah, also, I have to say that I disagree with you about Kirstie being better in her role than Shelley was! The only thing I thought that was boring about Diane, was when she was with Frasier... and even then, her and Sam had that awesome tension! Okay now I think I am rambling... I will stop now

Believe it or not, I've thought about that myself. In the final scenes when the gang is smoking cigars and talking about life, Rebecca wasn't there and should have been.

Maybe that's another reason why Kirstie won't reprise her role as Rebecca. **shrugs**

Yeah, but she probably would have burned down the bar again. I agree, she should have been with them in that scene. Her part overall in the finale should have been better.

I think that as far as her part in the finale, well, she had a bigger role than most of the people... the ones who should have had a big role did! Ted, Shelley and Kirstie... yeah I know you are all goign to disagree about Shelley, but she was there at the beginning, and had she not left, then Kirstie wouldn't have gotten to even be on the show, so in a sense, I think KA should be pretty damn grateful to Shelley! Therefore, Shelley deserved to be in as much of the show as the writers wanted her in! Truthfully, I think she should have been in more of it but hey you can't have it all
