Default Happy Days. The Next Genneration. Chapter 1: Fonzie's Life

Hi everyone. I know I still have my "Fonzie the Date" searies to do, but I just couldn't shake this idea to do a Happy Days story that fits with the whole "Next Genneration" idea. Focousing on the children of sevreal of the main chacters and their lives 20 years after the show ends. Here we go with Chapter 1, Fonzie's Life.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The roar of the motercycles wound down as the bikes came to a full stop. The ensuing silence was broken by the clicking sounds of romoving helmets. Fonzie jumped off his bike with the ease the proved he'd been doing it all his life.

"Alright guys, gather 'round." he said. He was instantly surrounded by the dozzens of young men that he served as mentor to. "That was great." he said "But next time, remember, we wern't racing. When your place is behind someone you *stay* behind that someone or the whole bike chain colapses. Understand?"

Nods and calls of "Yeah Fonz" or, from the newer members "Yes Mr. Fonzerilli" came up from around the group. Fonzie couldn't help but grin. He'd always known leadership was for him, but somehow, keeping kids out of trouble had never really occured to him as a good way to handle all his talents.

"Alright." he said, then with a snap of his fingers and a quick whirl, everyone followed him through the door of the restrunt-like building. Fonzie only breifly stopped at the counter when they entered. "Hey Heather." he greeted the young woman behind the counter. The woman he'd known since she was a little kid.

"Hey Fonzie." responded the once Heather Phister, now Heather Fonzerilli. Although there was a time Fonzie had hoped she'd become his adopted daughter, his break-up with Ashly Phister had ruined that dream. But, from the moment his adopted son gave Heather that ten-cent ring from the machene in the mall, it was odvious Heather would someday be what she was today...Fonzie's daughter-in-law.

"We need at least three large pizzas...and one meddum drink for everyone." he said. Even though Heather had filled a huge part of his life since she and Danny had really become serious, he could still be professionalls.

"The Pizzas..." she began "That's half Peporonnii and half Chicken Garlic, right?"

Fonzie thought for a moment and said "How 'bout one Peporonnii, one Chicken Garlic, and another half-and-half."

"You got it." Heather said. Then, in a softer, less professional tone, she said "you shure you guys can afford it?"

In an equeally soft tone, Fonzie said "Heather, each and every one of these guys, myself included, brought five bucks for food and games."

Heather chuckled and afferemed "You can afford it." Then, back in her light-and-loud professional voice, she said "Three Pizza's coming up for the Jr. Fonzie Fedderation!"

The entire gang laughed. Heather was constnatly pressuring Fonzie to pick a name for them, but they were known only as "The good bike gang"

The gang all went to one corner of the building where there were sevreal large tables. In almost a pratciced routene they took their seats around the table as Fonzie collected the cash they'd brought with them to pay for the Pizzas.

Today was a pretty typical day in Fonzie's life. The good bike gang had been founded shortly after Fonzie had moved to Chichigo. He could still remember that time. He and his wife, Sarah, were newlyweds and had moved away from Millwalkie so Sarah wouldn't have to commute to her long-standing secetreal job. Danny was really upset because the move had taken him away from the one person who ment more to him then his family. Heather. Fonzie had taken Danny and one of Danny's new friends out on their motercycles, and the gang had grown from there.

Fonzie let out a long sigh as the pizza was placed in front of him. Why was he dewlling so much on the past today? The life he'd had in Millwalkie was little more then a fond memmory. His family took up most of his time.

At age 49, people were constantly telling Fonzie that he needed to slow down, but he was as busy, if not buser then he'd been when he'd been young. The guys requred a lot of time and energery, and the only thing keeping him going on it was knowing what they'd be doing if it wern't for the gang. He worked at a local auto shop as a machinaic, and on top of that he had three young children demanding time and attation. Sarah constantly expressed concern that he'd have a heart attack one of these days.

Reaching for a peice of Pizza, not caring which kid, Fonzie let his mind wander. Richie Cunningham was, and always would be his best friend. Now that his cousen Chachi was married to Joanie, Fonzie was more a part of the family then he ever was before. The thought about Chachi and Joanie woke Fonzie up. No wonder he'd been thinking about the past so much! Joanie and Chachi's 20th wedding aniversry was just arround the corner!

Had he not been at the table with the guys, Fonzie would've smacked himself in the forehead. Instead, he settled for raming a huge bite of the pizza in his mouth. It was the Chicken garlic, and he'd just gotten a big onion. Fonzie's eyes buged and he locked his jaw around the so-called food. The fimmilar crunching sound whenever he brought his teeth together made his eyes begin to water. Waving his arms wildly, Fonzie tried to reach for his glass.

"Fonz?" came the fimmilar voice of senior member Matthew Willson, the friend of Danny's that had helped found the gang. "Fonz, what's wrong?"

Through clenched teeth, Fonzie manneged to get out the word "Soda." although it was unclear, they odviously got his message, because instantly every glass of soda on the table was passed in his direction. Fonzie grabed one at random, rased it to his lips, and gluped.

Once the bad pizza bit was washed down his throat, Fonzie put down the glass and gasped for breath. "What happened Fonz?" came the fimmilar voice of one of the members. Fonzie looked at the young man. His reddish hair and brown eyes, Fonzie felt like he was looking at Richie for a moment.

Fonzie shook himself out of it enough to say "An Onion." At those two words, the entere gang felt it safe to begin laughing. Fonzie tried to glare at them and get them to stop. He began to rase his fingers to snap, but then he thought about it. Seeing his reaction to the onion had to be almost freakish to these guys. They needed to laugh.

Remembering how he'd positioned his face, Fonzie pictured it from their position. He started to laugh too. Once Fonzie started, he couldn't stop. Everyone at the table was cracking up. Fonzie had pratcially fallen off his chair.

"O.K...." came the fimmilar voice of Heather from halfway across the room. She was passing them on her way to drop a pizza at another nearby table. "What's the joke?"

In perfict unison, all the guys cried out "An onion!" by this time they'd been getting stares from everyone else in the entire Pizza place. Fonzie didn't care. He just couldn't stop laughing.

****************************************

Fonzie drove the motercycle up the road and turned into the driveway. He paused only breifly, just long enough to reach into the mailbox, pull out the contents and place them safely in his jacket.

Zooming up the driveway, Fonzie prepared a full mental report on where he'd been all day to quote to his wife the moment he walked in. It was tradation for the two of you. State the things you you'd done all day and then prepaire for family time. They'd been doing it since Michalla had been old enough to crawl.

As he walked in the doorway, he wasn't surprised to see Sarah already sitting in the front hall. She sat on the small loveseat they'd positioned directly on the right side of the door. Her legs streached out over the couch as she leaned on the armrest. Fonzie took a moment to look at her. Her reddish-brown hair framed her perfict face and fell just past her shoulders. Somehow, it only served to enhance the crystal blue in her eyes.

Her perfictly shaped body was covered with the dark blue woman's busness suit she wore to work each day, but somehow, it only enhanced her natural beauty instead of discuising it.

A grin covered his face as he steped across the room and held out his hand. Sarah took it as Fonzie helped her to her feet. Slipping into a well-praticed dance position, they danced to the music that wasn't there. That only they could hear. The music that was still there every time they looked at ecahother like that, even after 14 years.

"How was your day sweetheart?" Fonzie breathed into her ear as he gently swirled her around the front hall.

"Fine." she whispered back. "Mr. Jeffers got the Thorcut account." she stated.

Despite the professional nature of her words, Fonzie was still melting at the verry sound of her voice. "That's great." he said softly. "The guys and I had some Pizza at Chuck's." he stated. His words were also professional, yet his tone was not.

"Great." she echoed his own sentment. Fonzie could script what was coming. They leaned towards eachother for a not-so-long kiss, and afterwords they'd go into more detal about their day. it was a good thing he's had that thought before the kiss started, because the moment their lips touched, Fonzie's brain turned to oatmeal.

The entire world disoveved around him, and the only thing that mattered at all was the feel of Sarah safe in his arms. The wonderous moment was intrupted by a loud voice in the next room calling "Daddy's home! Get the the Family room! NOW!" Fonzie and Sarah had to pull appart at that shout and share a laugh.

Slowly, Fonzie and Sarah slid onto the loveseat and cuttled as they shared the rest of the detals on their respective days.

******************************************

A few minutes later, Fonzie and Sarah walked into the family room. Fonzie pulled the mail out of his pockit and said in a loud, sing-song voice "Mail call!"

Chears went up from the three occupounts of the room as Fonzie and Sarah took their traditional positions, Fonzie in the recliner and Sarah on the couch beside 7-year-old Tamara Lynn. 12 year old Michalia Joan pulled herself into a sitting position from her previous streached-out-on-her-stomach position and crossed her legs. 10 year old Anthony David sat on the opposite end of the couch from his mother and sister.

Fonzie held up the pile of mail and offical family time began. "We've got five articles of mail today." he said. Every time Fonzie did mail call, he felt like a gameshow host. "Who wants to read..." he began, looking at the first envlope "Our electricity bill?" Fonzie wasn't at all surprised when Tony's hand shot up. Tony was the math wiz of the family. Fonzie handed the envlope to the young boy. Looking at the second envlope, Fonzie said "And..." Fonzie grinned, he already knew who would anwser this one "Who wants to read the letter from a certian Allison Greenman?" Fonzie's oldest daughter threw her hand in the air and waved it, chanting "Allison wrote, Allison wrote, Allison wrote."

Handing the letter to Michalia, Fonzie glanced at Sarah and said "I wish I could be that enthustic."

"You are." responded Sarah. "Every time Richie writes."

Fonzie couldn't hide the sheepish, guitly expression on his face. It was a standered joke in the Fonzerilli family. Allision was to Michalla what Richie was to Fonzie. "Who wants to read..." he started agian "Our water bill." Once agian, Anthony's hand shot up. Fonzie laughed and handed the bill to his only son.

Fonzie looked at the fourth envlope and was about to begin speaking agian when he froze, his mouth half-open. He felt for a moment like he'd stop breathing. It took a moment for him to get that game-show-host tone back in his voice "Who wants to read...a letter...from..." Fonzie knew that he was pulling everyone to the edge of their seat with his slow, dramatic words. Then, in a rush, he blurted out "Grandma and Grandpa Cunningham!"

Shouts of joy went up around the room agian, and every hand, including Sarah's shot up. Fonzie thought for a moment and said "Tamara, why don't you read it out loud for all of us?"

Tamara eagerly held her hand out, nodding. Fonzie handed her the envlope. The dark-haired 7-year-old tore the envlope open and eagerly pulled out the letter. She began reading. "Dear Fonzie and Family" it started. "Seems positive enough." Commented Sarah. Tamara's voice became more enthuastic as she contuned. "How have you been? We've been great. So great, infact, that we've saved enough money to host a family reunion. That's right, a Cunnihgham family reunion." Fonzie grinned "I know where this is going." Tamara contuned reading. "Fonzie, I know you're not really our son, but you've been like one to us. So we think that you and your family should come to the Cunningham reunion." The entire Fonzerilli family disolved into loud chears. All the other letters were forgotten, even Michaela's presious letter from Allison. They were going to the Cunningham Family reunion!

"I'm gonna go call Danny and tell him about this." Fonzie said, leaping to his feet and racing to the phone.

As Fonzie dialed, the chear in the room was unmeasureable. Little did they know how strongly this reunion would effect every single one of their lives.
