Post David Brenner's book

In David Brenner's book-no one sees you eat tunafish- David didn't have anything very nice or positive to say about Freddie, considering they were so close.
He even said that until Freddie got so he could afford his own drug supply he, David would share his and later Freddie would share his supply with David.
He did say he shares this info in this book because he wants others to think b/4 they do drugs.
But He didn't even sound as if he regreted any part he may have played in the drug ordeal It was so cold,I thought for a friend to write about another that way.

Sad

I am sooooo suprised that D.B. took drugs. When I saw his interview on tv I thought he was really a good role model for freddie. I'm really aggrevated - poor freddie didn't stand a chance! If tony orlando AND david brenner were on drugs and SHARED THEM then how could anyone expect freddie NOT to be. They were older and he looked up to them!!

It is really unfortunate that Freddie was surrounded by drugs and could suddenly afford them so easily--he probably felt like a kid in a candy store! I think the fact that it was the 70's had a lot to do with it, too--it seemed like everyone was experimenting with something back then. I think people kind of forget how young and impressionable Freddie really was.

This is sad & very upsetting. I had no idea Brenner was like that & had thought him to be nice. Sharing drugs with him is partly to blame for Freddies problems. Freddie looked up to them & they weren't a good example...

I had no idea about David Brenner sharing either. That was part of the problem. I would think that David knew better. What a bummer!

Joy, thank you for your perception of David Brenner. I had saw him in an interview back in February 2001 and I remember I came away feeling angry at the way he spoke about Freddie! I thought it was just me and/or that I was being hypersensitive. Like you, I found him to be negative regarding Freddie. But I have thought about it and I think that with him being as close to him as he was, perhaps this is the only way he can handle the tremendous weight of feelings he has about the entire horrible outcome. He must be grappling with guilt, conviction, regret and a multitude of emotions. He may be suffering more than we know because he realizes that Freddie looked up to him the way he did.
I agree with the other ladies who said that these older gentleman should have been a better example and role-model for Freddie. By them being involved in the drug scene, it sort of sanctioned it for someone so young, impressionable, and trying to be accepted. It is so sad that they learned this lesson at Freddie's expense. All of us feel this loss.

It's shame cuz on the E-Special he seemed to talk well of Freddie... So sad. They should feel guilty. A young sweet life was so tragically ended...

I did not know David Brenner had a book. It sounds like he had a bunch of jerks for friends. (That's not really the word I want to use either) Does he say anything else about Freddie? Sounds like a book I may have to investigate.
