TV Controversial Cast Exits: Barbie Ferreira

At only 23 years old, Barbie Ferreira rose to fame in HBO's drama series "Euphoria", an ensemble show about high schoolers grappling with sexual identity, drug addiction, and the internet. Her character, Kat, was a standout of the first season, battling deeply relatable issues of body image and early sexual experiences.

However, the character's reduced screen time in the second season was clocked by many fans, so it ended up not being a surprise that Ferreira chose to exit the series rather than reprise her role for the upcoming third season.

As Ferreira alleged, she had disagreements with "Euphoria" creator Sam Levinson over the direction of her character.

Although Ferreira has since stated that claims there was any drama were overblown by the media, her absence will still be a huge albatross on the future of "Euphoria".

Barbie Ferreira Reacts to "Euphoria" Season 3 Moving Forward Without Her
by Joey Nolfi
April 3, 2026

Former "Euphoria" cast member Barbie Ferreira has addressed the popular show moving on without her ahead of season 3.

Following her exit from HBO's Zendaya-starring drama series after season 2, the actress responded to a recent interview question about how much she keeps up with her ex-colleagues.

"Are you the same with Euphoria, where you see the trailers and you go, 'Oh, that's good that they're having fun on set, but I will catch up with them outside of the set anyway,' now that you've left the show?" The Morning Mashup radio show host Ben Harlum asked Ferreira in a new interview.

"Yeah, totally. People always ask me questions about season 3. I'm like, 'I don't know.' I don't even think the girls know," Ferreira replied.

Ferreira said she asks her former castmates questions about new episodes, including if social media star Trisha Paytas is joining season 3 alongside returning actors Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, and the late Eric Dane, among others.

"I was like, 'Is Trisha Paytas in Euphoria?' And they're like, 'I don't know.' And I'm like, 'You're in it. How did you not know?'" Ferreira continued. "So, I haven't seen anything until the trailers this week. They look amazing. I’m excited to see what the girls are gonna do."

Barbie Ferreira Exited "Euphoria" because "I Don’t Need to Be on the Biggest TV Show on Earth If I’m Not Flexing Acting Muscles"
by Kennedy French
April 14, 2026

Barbie Ferreira is reflecting on her departure from HBO’s “Euphoria”, saying she left the hit series after Season 2 because she no longer felt her character had a meaningful creative path forward and wanted to focus on more demanding acting roles.

In a recent appearance on Amanda Hirsch’s “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, released Tuesday, Ferreira said her exit as Kat Hernandez was not the result of behind-the-scenes conflict or the dramatic walk-off rumors that circulated online at the time. Instead, she described a slow, collaborative process of realizing the role had plateaued.

It wasn’t dramatic,” Ferreira said, adding that she was repeatedly engaged in conversations about Kat’s direction but struggled to find a satisfying trajectory. “It just wasn’t going anywhere.

Ferreira added that the role’s reduced scope also factored into her decision when weighing the time commitment required to continue on the series.

She noted that filming a season of “Euphoria” typically takes around nine months, and said it became difficult to justify spending nearly a year on a project where she was not consistently acting or being challenged creatively.

I don’t need to be on the biggest TV show on earth if I’m not, like, acting,” she said. “I would rather do an indie movie where I’m flexing my muscles, being creatively asked to do things.

She also addressed the fan-fueled speculation that followed her exit, including claims of on-set tension with series creator Sam Levinson, which HBO previously disputed. Ferreira has consistently denied walking off set or being involved in any feud, saying she felt swept into a narrative that grew beyond the facts.

I kind of got sucked into this drama that I never asked to be in,” she said on the podcast, reiterating that her departure was a “mutual decision” shaped by the lack of direction for Kat’s storyline. In earlier interviews, she similarly noted that Season 2 became a struggle creatively and emotionally for both her and the production team. “I believe in myself as an actress, and I want to see my career look a little differently than this. It’s okay if it’s not, like, the hit TV show,” she said. “I did that. I want to do my thing.

Despite stepping away, Ferreira said she remains proud of her time on the series and plans to watch the newly released third season, which continues without Kat as the ensemble evolves.
