Over at Getty's images site there are some photos of John/Mary/Robert doing a interview with a guy . The show is listed as P.I.P. and John is wearing a checkered shirt. Does anybody here know the name of this interview show?
Here's a link and just scroll down a bit . https://www.gettyimages.com/photos/mary-cadorette I know John and Mary did Hour Magazine but didn't know about this interview. I'm drawing a blank on P.I.P. . And help? |

If you look at the photos, there are different people interviewing them. It's possible this was just a press day for interviews with the media. It may have later aired as an ABC special event on July 1, 1984.
From ChatGPT: Yes — there was a 1984 ABC television special titled P.I.P.’s that was hosted by singer/actor Jack Wagner. Getty Images itself identifies one of your referenced interview pictures as Jack Wagner being interviewed on the ABC TV special “P.I.P.’s.” from 1984, confirming that the special existed and that Wagner was part of it. Here’s what’s known about it: 🎤 Title: P.I.P.’s (1984) 📺 Network: ABC 👤 Host: Jack Wagner (credited as interview subject/host appearance) 📍 Context: It appears to have been a network television special — likely a promotional or entertainment feature — on which Wagner was interviewed or served as host/presenter, at least for part of the program. Getty’s caption clearly labels the footage as from the ABC TV special “P.I.P.’s.” with Wagner being interviewed. Unfortunately, P.I.P.’s isn’t widely cataloged in major TV databases (e.g., on Wikipedia or IMDb) as a regularly scheduled series or widely syndicated show from that era, which means: It could have been an ABC summer special or a one-off promotional/entertainment broadcast rather than a recurring program. ABC sometimes produced special features, event programs, or promotional blocks that didn’t get regular listings or subsequent home media releases — and these can be hard to find in TV guides or archives today. However, the Getty Images archival caption is the primary source confirming its title and year. If you want, I can help you try to track down TV guide listings or broadcast schedules from 1984 that might show when P.I.P.’s aired and what the content format was (e.g., interview specials, music segments, etc.). Just let me know! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Here’s what we can reliably piece together about the 1984 ABC special titled P.I.P.’s: 📌 What P.I.P.’s Was It was a one-off television special broadcast on ABC in 1984. It’s specifically referred to in Getty Images captions as an ABC TV special called P.I.P.’s, with Jack Wagner being interviewed on it. At least one secondary source mentions the special in connection with an interview on July 1, 1984, showing the date that element aired or was photographed. So P.I.P.’s was not a regular weekly interview show, but a special broadcast event on ABC. Getty’s captioning confirms the title and network, which is particularly valuable because no major TV listings database today carries a show by that name. 📺 Context (Why It’s Hard to Find in TV Guides) National network prime-time lineups documented for 1984 don’t list P.I.P.’s, which suggests it did not occupy a regular primetime slot — specials often aired outside regular schedules or as promotional features. Wikipedia Listings from sources like UPI’s TV highlights for 1984 don’t show it in typical weeknight schedules either, further supporting the idea that it was a standalone special rather than a weekly series. UPI 🕵️ Why It Was Called P.I.P.’s There’s no formal record of what P.I.P.’s stood for, and: It might have been an internal ABC promotional special title (for example, People In the Public eye or something similar), Or a network promo/interstitial that wasn’t widely covered in TV listings, Or a press day event or promotional interview compilation repackaged for broadcast or affiliate markets. Because P.I.P.’s was likely a one-time special or promotional program, that’s why it doesn’t show up in regular TV schedules or databases. 🗓️ If You’re Tracking Air Date & Context Based on Getty caption info, one documented interview on that special happened in July 1984 — which strongly suggests P.I.P.’s aired around the summer of 1984, likely in a daytime or weekend time slot rather than prime time. |

Thanks for all the information! I really do appreciate it. Going back and diving deeper I believe you are right about it being a press day. All I could think of was maybe it was a press day for all the local newspaper TV Guides from different states. But since it's not listed in any TV Guides that wouldn't be correct. It would be nice to know if it was indeed a special or part of a show like Entertainment Tonight. I'll search around some more who knows I might find something.

I haven't been able to find any interviews from this press day on YouTube. They would be very easy to spot based on what they were wearing.
July 1, 1984 may have been the date the interviews were recorded. It's possible they aired later as part of an ABC preview or a special event. |
