Yes...It was called "It's a Small World." Barbara Billingsley and Jerry Mathers were the only two of the main cast to appear in it. Ward and Wally were played by two different people. Diane Brewster (Miss Canfield) and Richard Deacon (Fred Rutherford) also appeared in it. www.litb.com has a summary of the pilot and pictures. The pic in my siggy of Barbara was from the pilot episode.

I wished they would have a pilot marathon and show all the pilots to the shows they show on N @ N and TVL. I'd love to see the Beaver pilot and the All in the Family pilot. The AITF pilot doesn't have Rob Reiner or Sally Struthers in it. I'd love to see both of the pilots.

What was the original airdate for the LITB Pilot "Small World?" Has it ever been rerun in syndication or as a special? What was "Small World" about?

the pilot NEVER aired on television as It's a Small World, infact, the first "pilot" was supposed to be Captain Jack, where the boys buy an alligator, but the network thought it was to exploidable to have a toilet shown, but ANYWAYS! (haha) the pilot It's a Small World didn't turn up until the early 80's around when the reunion movie had come out, "Still the Beaver" and then it had aired. I think that's the only reason people have it on tape and can take pictures of it, but there's my two sense!

It's A Small World is the unaired pilot for the show. Here's the synopsis:

A young boy tells Beaver that if you get 1000 milk caps you can get afree bike from the milk company which is run by Fred Rutherford (playing another character though). Wally and Beav get the caps, turn them in and they have no contest. However the company catches on and likes the idea of a contest but the boys refuse to take the bike then after thier dad tells them they didn't earn it. In the end Ward buys them a bike. PRETTY MUCH IT.....

Wally and Beaver were very disrespectful in this episode, it's nothing like the show we see now. Beaver even kicks the man. It was aired on TBS during the New Leave it to Beaver run. Captain Jack is the official pilot for the show

Geez, Beaver kicking somebody. That would be kind of odd to watch. TVL come on and buy some of these rare pilots and show em!

The It's a Small World pilot did air on WGN (and probably in Canada also), it's probably the source of the copies that are floating around.

Captain Jack was the pilot and the first ep of LITB filmed, but it didn't air until the second episode, because of the toilet tank that appears on camera. Beaver Gets 'Spelled was the ep aired when LITB premiered on CBS on 10/4/57. BTW, in the unaired pilot, Harry Shearer, later of SNL and Spinal Tap, played Wally's buddy whose name, I think, was Freddie Haskell.

And Harry Shearer you will recognize as one of the voices of TV Land in their promos and ending credit voice overs.
