As I was thinking about Freddie's book, I was wondering why when Maria called Freddie's secretary and asked her to bring her to his apartment why didn't she do it,
Sure she'd been there earlier but she also watched him count and continue to take those pills, why didn't she just take Maria to her son, maybe she would have gotten there b/4 the damage was done, because as Maria points out in the book, she(the secretary)knew right where Freddie Lived and could have saved valuable time. I sure would not want to be that secretary and have that thought running through my mind. It's not my place to judge but I must be honest and say that I was mad at her for awhile after I finished reading the book. I too couldn't help but think,as I was reading that maybe there would be a different, better, and more hopeful ending what emotional reading |

I think I read somewhere she was tired but hey she wound up staying up at the hospital anyway after he did the unthinkable. If I was her I would've rather stayed up longer & got him help than to have happen what happened... Sure wish she'd done more...

I believe I read somewhere (maybe in Maria's book) that F.P. secretary was also a good friend of Kathy's. That's where he met his secretary in fact. Anyway, I was wondering if it would be hard to be 100% dedicated to Freddie when he was supposedly having a battle with Kathy and causing her so many problems with his drugs. Anyone else know what I'm talking about??????????

catcopy, your not the only one who has wondered that! He fired his first personel assistant to hire Carol when he met Kathy. Maria's book says they were good friends before Freddie! Was she there to keep Freddie out of trouble, or keep an eye on him for Kathy? Enquiring minds want to know!

yeah, I 'd read that somewhere that she was a friend of Kathy's. I wonder if maybe she sided with her?

Thtt's a good question about Carol maybe being there to keep an eye on Freddie, which makes me ask even more seiously why didn't she help when she had the chance?
If she were a good friend of Kathy's wouldn't she want to do all she could to Help Freddie so that her good friend Kathy wouldn't have to raise their beloved son alone. What kind of friend wouldn;t have tried to step in and help. |

All of you raise some good and valid points. I have wondered the same things. When I first read this account in 1979, I remember feeling angry that she made weak excuses for not being there to help him. It just does not add up. I think he must have felt like the lonelinest person at that time. The true meaning of friendship was missed by a lot of people who were close enough to help him.

I apologize for the tone of my last post. I do not mean to be judgemental. But it does hurt and anger me the way the entire thing unfolded. As Freddie's Mom said, "Minutes could have saved our son."!!!!

Something else that bothers me: In the short teaser clips they give at the start of the E-True Hollywood story, Carol says that Freddie threatened to shoot her. But that was never repeated again or elaborated upon in the body of the show. It was the only clip that wasn't repeated. I found that very strange... Also, I wonder if she could have fabricated that story about Freddie pretending to shoot himself in the bathroom. She really had nothing nice to say about Freddie, but you think she would feel guilty as hell, wouldn't you? She kind of pisses me off...(Sorry TJ)

Something else: In the PB article, a few paragraphs after the author states that Kathy worked at the Mustang ranch in Reno,he writes: "Kathy's friend Carol Novak also came from Reno to become his secretary..." Maybe I'm overanalyzing, but when I read between the lines I think the writer is hinting that Carol might have also been a shady character (involved with prostitution, perhaps). As a reporter I think that maybe he had reports that Carol also worked at the Mustang ranch, but couldn't prove it. And to avoid a libel suit, he left it out. What do you guys think?

Croiter, I have wondered that too. The secretary Freddie had before was this gorgeous blonde. It has been a while since I read the book, but I think Freddie's ma really liked her too. She does not really say much about her daughter-in-law or Carol Novak. I am no one's judge, and I am not sure if those things are true about Kathy Prinze, but why would Freddie marry someone like that. I hope this doesn't sound bad, but it is a question I have been dying to ask. I'd really like to hear a man's point of view on it too....I thought men liked sweet innocent girls--like yours truly....

You've got to remember. Freddie grew up near Harlem. He dealt drugs in high school. He was a rough street kid, no matter how sweet he appears on TV. And I think I read somewhere that he was abused as a child. He was only 20 or 21 when he met Kathy... the sex was probably good, and he was probably the kind of girl he was used to...that's my opinion...
