Post Was Freddie spoiled?

In reading Maria's book I got the impression,in fact she said she didn't say no to Freddie.(Well who could those eyes, those dimples!!)
But I wonder if he was spoiled. as his mom she had to say no sometime.
And if she gave him everything-why would he need to beg and borrow money from his mom if he were dealing drugs?
was he really dealing or was that an image he wanted for the press?
Did he borrow money from his mom so she wouldn't wonder where all his money was coming from because I think Freddie and his mom were very protective of each otherand he wouldn't want her to know what he was doing.

Freddie was Maria's only child. He had a face that could make you give in alot. I believe he was spoiled but, he had that face!

The only child is always usually spoiled but some are spoiled more than others. He may have worked hard and earned his own money but i think she probaly spoiled him in other ways.

Hey Ed Brown, I'm gonna to tell you to get out of my garage for saying that only children are usually spoiled! LOL!!I am one myself and didn't grow up spoiled (honest!!) You can't help the extra attention you might get, because all eyes are focused on you all of the time. I guess it varies on how your parents are. I think more pressure is put on only children to please their parents also. It can be like living in a fish bowl at times. I couldn't charm my parents as good as Freddie did though - my Dad was stricter than Karl!! But I can see my Mom in Maria definetly. I'll forgive you Ed! LOL!!

I do not think Freddie was spoiled. I think that he and his Mom were mutually devoted to each other. She sounds like a hard-working Mom who adored her only child. And it seems that he was very considerate of her, loved her immensely and probably did try to keep alot of things from her, so as not to worry her. Yes, he was a charmer though. Considering, how short Freddie's life was, I feel his Mom is proud that she gave him everything she could, most of all -- her Love.

Hey Ed, that's great. Only children unite!! I think we only children seem to always get a bad rap. It's that darn stereotype every time! I'm sure even Freddie found it hard sometimes, maybe, especially being a guy, he seemed to love his mother very much and all, but Freddie seemed to like his privacy. Maria did mention that in the book. I'll bet that is a result from being a single child to some extent. Freddie seemed to fit the good stereotype, being a leader and ambitious though!

Thumbs up

I am also an only child, and I have to admit to being spoiled, still at my age! It can make a person strong, or emotionally troubled. I think Freddie was a combination of both and the emotional troubles won out because of the Hollywood lifestyle.

Another only child here too! We can have our own only childs cclub on here!

It was nice not having to deal with well your sister gets better grades than you do etc... But then when my folks & hubby die I'll be all alone so when that comes I'll be sorry I never had a brother or sister.

I noticed in his moms book there were a couple pictures of grownup Freddie with his Mom & he had his head on his shoulder & looked like he just adored her & felt so safe in her arms... I'm betting that if he hadn't died & his mom were to have died that it would've broke his heart & devastated him & he probably would've cried his heart out..

Amazing how similar Freddie & I are. We're about 5 or 6 yrs apart in age, only children & June babies! Wow!
