Im wondering if some of you might know whats causing this?
Notice the menu DOES NOT FIT THE APPLET and the 3 check boxs are not boxs! ![]() If I bootup in safe mode everything displays right so its gonna be a driver I assume Since safe mode uses different drivers..... The first time this happend I simply deleted "shelliconcache" and it fixed itself but not this time....... This is Win98se and everything in device manager says all stuff is working OK so it must be a driver file but I dont know which one!! Thanx guys,I love ya all!! |

Thats not a helpful reply
![]() A friend of mine said it might be a scaling issue but I would assume that would show up in safe mode also... What is a scaling issue??? (Ah man!!) |

You are lucky a Windows 98 computer still works. Might want to prepare for if it stops permanently, Microsoft isn't going to pour anything into something that ancient. I had to get a new computer this year because they wouldn't be doing security updates anymore for a Windows version that was far more recent.

I hear ya icecream.. Yea I know..
I wanna keep her going as long as I can because I have control over what I can do on it while newer OS's the user doesnt have as much control... With Windows for example they started locking down the OS with Win2000 SP4 |

You do know who you're talking to, right?
1. No DVD, only VHS 2. No flat screen TV, only CRT 3. No Wi-Fi, only direct connection 4. No CD, cassettes or 8 tracks only 5. Flat world, not round 6. No 21st century, only pre-millenium--even the 1990s are iffy (don't refer to this, but the internet is digital. shhhh...) |

I might also still have a CRT TV if it didn't quit working. I know a guy who until recently had a really nice Sony Trinitron, and it also bit the dust.
I've posted before that the digital world of TV has its problems. But analog had a lot of issues, too. |

The best advice I can come up with would mirror what Dead2009 said. The reason I'd say it is because your computer is running with long-unsupported software. So that software is prone to glitches and problems.
When you said that Microsoft had "locked down" the OS (I can no longer find that remark so I guess you edited it out), I assume that means you would no longer be able to tinker with the Operating System with later versions of Windows. If you altered anything with the OS in Win 98 SE, the other advice I would offer is to recheck whatever you did. |

Someone on Vogons suggested removing the graphics card in device manager and then reboot and let it put it back in.......
I suppose I could try that,if I knew which one it was! (Im not as smart as they all are on Vogons!!) |
