Default What Happened To "Movie Stars"?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g354JGdoMpk

Quote:
The term “Movie Star” used to mean something. There was a time when a single actor’s name could open a film to massive box office success. Icons like Marlon Brando, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Katharine Hepburn, Meryl Streep, and Julia Roberts didn’t just star in movies… they sold them. Audiences showed up because they were in the role.

But today’s Hollywood looks completely different. In the modern era, IP is king. Characters like Captain America, Harry Potter, Barbie, and dozens of franchise-driven heroes now dominate the global box office, often overshadowing the actors playing them. It’s no longer about the star’s persona… it’s about the brand they’re attached to.

So has the traditional Movie Star disappeared from Hollywood? Or has the idea of a larger-than-life performer simply evolved into the IP characters and cinematic universes they inhabit?

When you get the general picture it is becoming incredibly hard to find good movie stars today mainly because in entertainment it seems today that if you want to make your mark in Hollywood you start out either as a model act in a commercial or be in a sitcom. But back in the day we had movie stars like Marlon Brando Marilyn Monroe John Wayne and Shirley Maclaine and in action stars we had Sylvester Stallone Gene Hackman and Steve McQueen and in comedy movie stars we had Robin Williams Eddie Murphy and Chevy Chase. But if you look at movie stars today you will not find another Gene Hackman Sylvester Stallone or Robin Williams and it seems that Hollywood movie stars today seem to be from TV or from sitcoms. One example of an actor like this is Jason Bateman and when he started out he was a child TV star then as a teen he starred in It's Your Move Silver Spoons and The Hogan Family then Jason Bateman made his first movie debut in Teen Wolf Too and since then Jason has made success in movies like State Of Play Identity Thief Horrible Bosses and other movies. Another movie star that showed promise was Patrick Dempsey and when Can't Buy Me Love debuted in 1987 Patrick Dempsey became a teen idol but after Can't Buy Me Love Patrick Dempsey was thought to be a one-hit wonder actor but after Loverboy in 1989 failed Patrick moved on to TV movies until Grey's Anatomy made him a star again then with Disney's Enchanted and Made of Honor becoming hits Patrick Dempsey made a return to movies again. Then you have actors that are thought to be one-hit wonders but end up being successful in Hollywood. That would become true for Jeremy Renner and when The Hurt Locker debuted in theaters Jeremy Renner became a giant household name in Hollywood and now he made his marks in The Bourne Identity and Marvel movies. But for other movie stars that seem to have one hit movie then disappear from the industry it can work but can fail. One example is Nikki Blonsky who gained fame in the Hairspray musical and because of Hairspray's success Nikki was gonna be a big movie star but after the movie Queen Sized Nikki Blonsky disappeared without a trace and has never made a comeback movie since. When will we see the next generation of Hollywood stars? Only time will tell in the near future as time goes on
