Talking All-Time Favorite Episodes!

Hey Guys,

The Bob Newhart Show is back!!!! Yes!!! Here are some of my favorite all-time episodes! (Sorry if I don't know the exact titles.)

1. The Group Goes on Television
2. High IQ Club
3. Moo-Goo-Gi-Pan
4. Fourth of July Party
5. Dr. Ryan's Express

In fact, I love any of the episodes with Debbie! (The nutty temporary receptionist) (And there are only 3) but they are great also!

Any of the Christmas episodes are great also, and I like the one's where Bob's Mother visits. Mr. Carlin and Howard are my favorite characters.

I'm not a big fan of the "Cliff Murdoock" episodes ("The Peeper") For some reason, I didn't think he was funny. Carol's husband Larry is kind of a drag. What are some of your favorites?

Jack

I don't know what the title of this one episode is, but the one episode that sticks out in my mind is the one where Bob goes on an early morning Chicago TV talk show...the host's name was Ruth Corley, and she was just as sweet as she could be to Bob, until the cameras started rolling, and then she turned on him instantly...as she apparently does with ALL of her guests...

when Bob and Ruth were on stage, waiting for the show to start, the camera starts, and Ruth looks into the camera and says to her audience words to the effect of, "Good morning...our guest this morning is psychiatrist Dr. Robert Hartley....they say that the average psychiatrist is nothing more than a flim-flam man...a snake oil salesman...peddling cures for everying from depression to a lousy love life...and I agree...." then she pauses and says, "We'll ask Dr. Hartley to defend himself after these messages".... the look on Bob's face is priceless... then, he asks Ruth, "Was that on the air?"...and Ruth says "Yeah, well that's what we in the business call a 'grabber'...it keeps the audience from tuning out"... Then Bob says "there's not going to be any more 'grabbing', is there?"....

The whole show is like that...it's definitely my favorite episodes ever...I think one other reason it sticks out in my mind is that it was one of the first episodes of anything that I taped, after getting my first VCR...I was taping everything in sight, but I've always kept that particular tape...I love that episode...

Later, after Bob's appearence is over, he gets out of his chair and Ruth says to him, "thanks Dr. Hartley, I really enjoyed that"...to which Bob replies, "well, you would have enjoyed Pearl Harbor"...

If any of you out there EVER get to see this episode, DON'T MISS IT!!!!

oh yeah, one other bit of classic dialog from that show:

Ruth, to Bob: Do you ever CURE anyone?
Bob: Well, I wouldn't say "cure" exactly...
Ruth: (interrupts) ...so your answer's no?
Bob: No...my answer is...is NOT no... many of my patients go on to become successful...one of my ex-patients is an elected official...
Ruth: A WHAT????
Bob: uh..nothing!
Ruth: Who is it?
Bob: I can't divulge his identy.
Ruth: Why not? After all, there's a deranged man running around out there in a position of power..
Bob: he...he's not deranged...any more...

CLASSIC!!!! True must-see TV!!

Bye for now...

According to our digital cable on-screen TV Guide, this very episode I just listed above as my favorite (apparently titled "Who is Mr. X?") is airing tonight (that is, tomorrow morning) on TV Land (at either 2 or 2:30 am ET, that is, Dec 19, at 2 or 2:30 am ET)...whatever time Bob Newhart is on..

IF ANYONE GETS THIS MESSAGE, PLEASE BE SURE TO TAPE THIS EPISODE!! IT'S GREAT, AND WELL WORTH SETTING THE OL' VCR FOR!

My overall favorite would have to be "A Day In The Life" from Season 6. After that...

Fly The Unfriendly Skies
Tracy Grammar School, I'll Lick You Yet
Last TV Show
Happy Trails To You
Tennis, Emily
Mom, I L-L-Love You
Goodnight Nancy
I Want To Be Alone
Let's Get Away From It Almost
A Home Is Not Necessarily A House
Emily, I'm Home…Emily?
Backlash
Mister Emily Hartley
Mutiny On The Hartley
The Modernization Of Emily
Big Brother Is Watching
The Separation Story
Brutally Yours, Bob Hartley
Bob Hits The Ceiling
Caged Fury

I...yeah....am very indecisive...

Fave episodes: the ones centered on the therapy group. "The Battle of the Groups", "Fear of Flying", and "The Last TV Show" to name but a few. The episodes with the Peeper were a lot of fun, too.

But my overall fave episode is "Over the River and Through the Woods". I want MOO GOO GOO GOO!!! My name is DIR Bob Hartley!!!

Yes...old threads coming back is a very good thing. "Mutiny on the Hartley" was also an awesome episode, where Bob decides to raise his rates, much to the displeasure of his group. "I'm Dreaming of a Slight Christmas", where Bob is stuck in the office building during a blizzard and power outage, is another classic. Fave part: The Jerry Robinson Trio's rendition of "Good King Wenceslas".

One of my favorites is Tennis Emily when that handsome tennis instructor thinks Emily is coming on to him but she really isn't. And of course Bob's reaction to the whole thing is pretty funny.

Then the guy says maybe Peggy Fleming wasn't staring at him while she was skating after all.

I always liked "The Jobless Corps", which is an episode I can sadly relate to now. I've been going to my share of "out of work workshops" lately, though not a therapy group. Someone should tell Mr. Herd that sales isn't his strength.

Yes, he was. The name of the actor is Peter Brown, who is probably best known for his work on soaps (Days of Our Lives, Bold & the Beautiful). He also played a bad guy who kidnapped Daisy on an episode of Dukes of Hazzard.
