Question Did you see the picture?

Hey everyone!
I was watching the pilot episode yesterday as I had to tape it because I was gone, and I didn't get it all on tape the first time, anyway, when I saw it when it came to the final scene in the van where Ed gives Chico s blanket to muffle the sound of his guitar, did anyone notice the picture of a woman in the van behind Ed?
I bet you dollars to donuts that that's a picture of Freddie's mother.
Did anyone else see that?

Also on the PADRE episode when he's looking at a picture of his mother & cries (after he's hugged his dad goodbye & Ed tells him he'll grow up to be like his dad), I wonder if that's a picture of Freddies mother Maria too. Since he died not long after that was filmed, I wonder if when he looked at the pic of his mom, he knew what he was going to be doing soon & it made him sad thinking of leaving his mom. I could sense that his crying wasn't in the script but was something that just came natural to him in playing it...

I saw that too, but I just assumed it was a picture of a lady---no one in particular. Such a cutie. He and Jack had good chemistry together...

Cool

I have tried to compare the 2 pics and as far as I can tell it was/is his mother, probably when she was younger, but using the pic in the book it looks like her.

I noticed the picture in the pilot episode and agree it was probably his mother. Also on The Padre episode I believe that was his Mom's picture as well. Cheryl, you make a good point. He was shedding real tears and it seemed the moment he spoke about her with his Padre Gilberto, he was teary-eyed. I wonder, like you, was he thinking about what was ahead and how it would affect her.

Poor thing, it makes me sad to see him cry like that. I think I read somewhere on here or either the CATM YAHOO club that the PADRE episode may have possibly been his last episode & not Ed talks to God. I could sense that his tears were his own emotions & wren't written in the script. If only he could've thought some more about his mom then maybe he might not have done it.

In a few episodes like the one where Chico loves Marilyn & wants to marry her but she turns him down & the one where the city wants to tear down the garage I can tell his crying was written in the script but he made it so real like he really felt it. In other episodes like the PADRE episode & the one where Chico wants a bathtub & the inspector won't let him live in the van anymore due to a city ordinance that his tears/crying wasn't scripted but was real emotion he felt when acting the role of Chico in that situation. In the bathtub episode when he sits on the stairs & talks about how he's about to be homeless again & cries, I can sense he is really feeling the emotion when he says that. He looks sooo sad. & when he gets up when Louie walks in I noticed he's wiping tears from his eyes. I could sense that Freddie played Chico similar to his own self emotionalwise where he played him like his own self where he wasn't afraid to show his feeling or emotions like that.

I can't help but wonder what was going thru his mind when he cried during the PADRE episode...
