By reading this message board, I feel fairly comfortable to assme that
the Cleaver's live in a Mayfield according to the HaskellGirl, which is an acutal suburb in Ohio as with Shaker Heights. Now, I am looking for the explanation of why the show through several episodes make references to the boys going to the beach and in the "Paperboy" episode, the dialogue mentions Beaver going over to the paperboys house to join them going to the "beach" and using their brand new "surfboard". Well, we do have a beaches here, on Lake Erie. Having said that, I do think the writers thought basically "Smalltown, USA" when writing about Mayfield, and didn't stick to a strict scrip (say that 5 times fast
) regarding all the facts of the area.

Also, don't forget that the popular music of the day was the Beach Boys and all that surfing music. It was kind of a craze back then, so that might have had something to do with why they keep mentioning the surfboard.

The Beach Boys' first single, "Surfin'" was in 1961, so they would only have been aware of them in the later seasons.

Well, that makes sense then. Do you remember the first mention of the surfboard? I mean, was it before '61?

It's called "fresh-water surfing", but I've never tried it! Or any kind of surfing for that matter!!

Also, the beach was metioned in the Mary Margert Matthews episode. Gilbert said he could teach Mary Margert how to water ski and Beaver got all upset...
