Default Pointless character on the Jeffersons

What was the point of Ralph the Doorman? He had no relationship with none of the other characters, he wasn't a neighbor, just someone who was a Doorman. I think it was only one episode when Ralph and Florence were talking about how no one cares about them but that was it. I just don't see how the Ralph the doorman character lasted on the Jeffersons for 10 years.

Ralph was a peripheral character who was there for added laughs. It was funny how he always had his hand out for a tip, and even funnier when George slammed the door in his face all the time.

George only slammed the door in ralph's face once-you are thinking about Mr. Bentley. Plus Ralph was not funny at all and i just can see why he was on the show for 10 years.

George slammed the door on Mr. Bentley, The Willis' and Ralph on numerous occasions as well as anyone else in his line of fire.
As for Ralph being funny or not--that's pure opinion. To me, he was funny.

Jan, please ignore this guy. All he does is try to state opinions as fact. He's got this exact same topic on other boards.

No offense, Solomon, but do you have anything good to say about any characters?

The point of the message was Ralph is the ONLY character on the show I didn't like.

Despite what you say SOLOMON, Ralph the doorman added that special something to the show as well as some of the flavor that helped make the show a big success. Ralph was a good character and I am glad that he stayed in the show all eleven seasons.

All the characters had their place and broke up the monotony.
