Default Why did video game movies become hot?

Back when video games were big in the 80's and 90's I never knew that video games would also become movies as time went on and I never figured that out? Take for instance in 1993 Super Mario Bros had it's first live action movie and it did alright then in 1994 we saw the same thing happen with Street Fighter when Street Fighter was made into a hit movie with the late Raul Julia. And soon movies based on video games became huge and now video game movies are hotter than ever with movies based on Five Nights At Freddy's and The Last Of Us and Uncharted and Sonic The Hedgehog movies have become hits. And we also have seen Assassin's Creed being made into a movie as well as The Super Mario Movie and what it tells me is that it helps make the games sell. But have you noticed that there hasn't been a movie about Pac-Man and what about Metroid and The Legend Of Zelda? I would love to see Castlevania as a movie too or Call Of Duty. Is movies based on video games the new trend in movies today?

I think why movie adaptions of video games are becoming big trends is just so they can see how good the video games will sell and more people will buy that video game. I cannot figure out how Five Nights At Freddy's became a movie when I can't figure out why it's a popular video game. But it is surprising that The Mario Bros Movie became popular because Nintendo's Mario games are selling like hotcakes and the same answer is why the Sonic The Hedgehog movies are popular as a way to sell video games of Sonic The Hedgehog. But not since the Pokemon craze began that the two Pokemon movies were big at the box-office. But how Assassin's Creed and The Last Of Us get movies i'll never know? But it won't be long till a Pac-Man movie comes out in the future
