I wonder what the producers had in mind when young Brian Williams, fresh out of law school, hooked up with Oliver to start a firm in Hooterville.
There were only two episodes, which makes me think the PTB said “eh this isn’t gonna work,” and Brian was long gone. It’s true that outside of Eb, GA may have needed more young blood on the show. But….Oliver was a farmer at heart; nobody could farm AND practice law at the same time. The one dialogue near the very end of the last episode, I wish were true today—that being, “lawyers cannot advertise.” IF ONLY…. cd |

I think they were just trying ideas out, like when the little girl Laurie on for a few episodes.

I recall he appeared briefly for a third episode later in the season, but he was dropped after that. I agree with ABH, the crew was probably open to seeing how a potential cast addition could work, but were unimpressed with Brian. No offense to the actor, but I certainly don't blame them for dropping him. He was way too boring and normal. I think the only funny thing he ever said was "Are you sure?" (in response to Oliver saying the sign painter spelled his name wrong).
For a show with such outlandish plots and characters, there seemed to be an unusually large number of bland characters (Brian, Lori, Darlene, etc.) as guests. I have to wonder, if the show had a larger budget maybe the producers could have found guest actors more in line with Hooterville standards. |
