These street labeling are not written in stones, so choosing whether to call it street, road, avenue or boulevard will be at the discretion of city planers. Road: Road come from the Latin word "RAD" which mean Ride or Journey On Horse Back. It mean moving from one place to another and for connecting two distance points such as towns or region. it is meant for heavier and faster traffic. Street: It come form the word "STRADA" which mean Paved Way. It is about connecting people than connecting places. It is where people live, shop and socialize and accompany both "slower" traffic and people. Avenue: Often wide street with trees or landscaping. Boulevard: Usually wide and divided with greenery in the middle. Lane: A small narrow road often in rural area. Drive: A road that curve or winds. |

Welcome. I also have wonder myself why in a city some streets are labeled street, and some are labeled road or Avenue, or why some are labeled boulevard. This is a informative video that give better illustrated detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXuvHx12_Ps |
