Default It Needs to be on TV Land

I remember watching this sitcom when it was on Nick at Nite. I have the 1st two episodes on tape and just watched them the other day. This sitcom is hilarious. Why it's not on TV Land, I don't know. I have tried to find every episode on VHS, but have been unsuccessful. Also, I noticed that Al Lewis was not in the first two episodes, does anyone know when his debut was?

I don't know when Al Lewis's debut was but I know something: I wish TV Land would show Car 54. Everyone says it's a really funny show. If it is very funny (I have never seen it), why did it only last just two seasons? I guess it didn't have an audience.

Default Well ...

I don't know why it was canceled, but it lasted 60 episodes. A lot of shows back then could only last a couple years and are today classics. Some are:
The Munsters (1964-1966)
The Addams Family (1964-1966)
The Monkees (1966-1968)
The Honeymooners (1 season,1955-1956)
Gilligan's Island (1964-1967)
It's not so much in quantity, but in quality.

The Munsters was cancelled because the producers refused to put the show in color despite a CBS order for them to do so (it was the start of the 1966-67 season; all the shows were in color by then). Gilligan's Island was cancelled to make room for Gunsmoke. I guess the networks back then didn't realize that they were producing and cancelling too soon shows that would later turn out to be classics.

I'm not certain when Al Lewis made his debut, but before he became "Officer Schnauser", he appeared in episode # 7 ("Paint Job") as a guy working in an auto body shop which was really a front for a stolen car ring. I believe that Billy Sands (who later played "Tinker" in McHale's Navy) was his partner in the body shop. Toody and Muldoon bang up their squad car, and bring it into the body shop for a quick repair and paint job so they won't get in trouble with Captain Block. They end up getting back the wrong car, however.

The chances for it returning to NAN or TV Land are slim. Thats what I think...

Default This was a great show!

I really hope they decide to bring this back. At least it would be nice to see once a week, if that is all they can give it. It was funny. Nice to see these characters work together before the Munsters. They really clicked!

As most of you probably know, the head writer, Nat Hiken, was a comic genius who also did "Sgt. Bilko." I wish it were on some channel or other.
