Default Down With The School System!!

The problem with the school system is simple. The emphasis is placed too much on a letter, rather than actual knowledge! In other words, You get a grade based on how much busy work you do, not how much you know! I had a friend who got straight A's throughout his four years of High School, I recently asked him what he had learned, his reply was "huh? I don't remember". This, my friends, is ridiculous! I, on the other hand, did not partake in any of the busy work and recieved D's and F's throughout my high school career did, in fact, learn a great deal.

The grading system needs a drastic make over. We have too many incompetent people in high end jobs just because they did a whole lot of bullsh*t busy work throughout high school and college. This is also why W is in office! God help this country!

Actually, I see what you mean. Like in my Math and Biology classes...they don't even grade our homework. They just see that we did it. My biology teacher told us today that he doesn't care if we get everything on our homework wrong, he just wants to see that we did it....

Ya that's what my teachers do.... only I take the time to do it because you never know when they're gonna say "I'm collecting homework!" and sometimes they do do that...

Half the kids fail because they don't do their homework. But when it comes time to take standardized testing like the MCAS (Massachusetts Assesment Comprehensive System), IOWA tests, or so on and so forth, half the kids PASS because they are smart!

We go over it in class and they call on random people... so if you don't have it, they know if you don't... that's why I failed Social Studies [but Mrs. Harrod decided to be nice and take away some of my zeros!! Yay for Mrs. Harrod!!!] My teachers are really nice, most of the time, so I don't mind going to school [ Mona... shushie. ]

Yeah, I agree the school systems are pretty messed up. Everything in my school was pretty screwed up. It seems like they cared more about how we were wearing our clothes instead of trying to teach us something. Then we have the class destractions. I can't tell you how many times the whole class got busy work because of one person shooting off their mouth. It really wasn't fair, but I learned long ago to suck it up and keep quiet about it.

The thing is the grades in my school were pretty heavy. We had the credit system and you had to have a certain amount of credits to graduate. You would think that would be enough, correct? Nope. Had to take this major test my Junior year in order to graduate. I think I can understand why they had the major tests. A person could cheat to get credits. I knew this one guy, and I don't think he knew how to read. I don't know if he was dyslexic (sp?) or what, but he usually copied other peoples work to get a good enough grade. So you see, a person could cheat to get the grades and still get a credit. However, you are all by yourself for those big tests. Everybody has different exams and you have no way of cheating off somebody elses paper.

They should not give 'progress reports' or even grades anymore. I never study for tests, I memorize. I admit, I do it too. The only stuff I know is math and band.... biology and english I memorize for. I can honestly say I know next to nothing on those two subjects. Teachers should grade on effort, questions asked, class conversation participation, and conversations had with the students pertaining to the subjects being learned.

This reminds me of a story...I shall tell.

So we have to do these Julius Caesar study guides for English and out teacher told us that she just gives us credit for doing them. So Leanne wrote for one of her answers "Yes, Brutus has a pet monkey." and some of Amirrah's answers were "The sheep frolic" "Brutus has a large farm" and "Brutus' camel has a big hump."

Ugh, they probably do all that for statistics on like who does the most homework in the US or whatever. Ya, all the teachers are like that. But then, you have the teachers who WANT you to absorb it, but some get like, obsessive over it. Ugh, I dunno. I did what I needed to get by (which didnt take much effort) and got mostly B's.

lol...on my spanish hw i would just write a buncha random letters and spanish words and if i got too impatient i would just scribble on the answer line. This year we hafta turn it in but she doesnt really check it so i write random spanish words and if im lazy i skip half of it and say i didnt understand it. The guys are just like that, 1ce i saw this guy's hw and he just wrote "el" on a line where u were sposed to write a whole sentence lol. My answer on that question was "si" cuz i just saw that it had question marks, not that i had ne idea what the question was.

Unless you're extremely lucky, . But anyway, I'm not a fond of major tests, especially those you need to take in order to get into the high school, junoir high school, college, etc. of your choice. They're pathetic. I mean, everything is determined by that ONE score; they don't even bother to see report cards or anything, which I think is really unjust. You can be the world's smartest kid, and the worst test-taker.

My biology teacher is like that, too. He just wants to see that we've tried. It never seems to matter whether we put down an answer that is right or wrong. I swear, most of my marks in my bio class is probably graded on my homework being finished and my labs and questions handed in. I try at tests, but even if I study, I just manage to pass. Tests just aren't my strong point.
